:oJust wondering if any nurses out there have unionized,if so what has their experience been like.Has it helped with any problems or not? What are the best unions for nurses and how hard is it to be part of a union as a hospital nurse? It seems like nursing today have no advocates in our workplace.

I started as a nurse in a hospital with a Union in 2001 and to be honest, with a little trepidation, because there seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding Unions of all types. But, I will tell you, I believe it is absolutely the VERY best thing ever for nurses, there are never incidences where I have ever felt bullied by management or treated unfairly because I know (and they know) that when they deal with me, they have the entire nursing staff (the Union) standing with me. It is VERY empowering. I know for a fact that my pay and my benefits would not be as good and because of the strong Union in my state we have among the best salaries in the country. I don't know anything about different unions, but I know mine is part of the ANA.

I would highly recommend it. I think it is the only way that nurses reach the pay range we deserve, look at the difference in salaries and working conditions between states with and without Unions, it is astounding. Good luck!

In the state of Georgia, you would probably be fired just for mentioning a union!!

I think it would be great to be in a union. Might prevent some of the crap we have to put up with!!!

GA is a right to work state... there are no unions... the few there are will never make prime time news for striking... I wish we could for a union in GA would sure make a difference.
