Anyone applying? Just have a few more things to get done then I will submit my application. I have never used Nursing CAS before but kinda like it to apply to the school. Priority deadline is October 15th.
I'm an OR nurse as well with with 11 years of OR experience and 2.5 years of ICU. Like you I decided after seeing CRNA's in action first hand that I wanted to follow that path. I have my CNOR as well as my CCRN. I feel like we have a leg up as well and have had many CRNA's tell me as much. However, I had an anesthesia school tell me (during an interview) that being in the OR did not mean I knew what went on behind the drape. (I wanted to say I'm not stupid but I kept my mouth shut ). I have applied at multiple schools and interviewed twice at one with no luck. I pray this is the final run! I fell in love with Union when I visited. Good luck!
Omg. That was kind of rude of them. Sorry to hear that!
Mjonesrn Yay! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one! I feel like I def have some knowledge of anesthesia just by being in the OR. Obviously there is a lot more to know than just what we see but I believe all those years give us an advantage when it comes to the flow of the OR. I can't believe they said that! I would have been stunned.

I am not actually applying to this school this year--but I like to look at other options in case my current ones don't pan out. I was a scrub tech for 11 yrs--the last 4 of which I was doing pre reqs/nursing school. I also feel like I have a huge advantage having all of that time in the OR. But I have had two different directors/ CRNAs say that it is different behind the blue drape and I should shadow still. I have shadowed 3 days to check that box off so to speak. It is exactly how I thought it would be. There was nothing that was done that I didn't already have some concept of prior. It's amazing to me that some CRNAs would not think that with a small amount of observational skills we would have a pretty good idea on what goes on up there. It hasn't been as big of an advantage that I was hoping, but I also wasn't a nurse at the time so I sure that puts me one further rung down from you.
So I've seen interviews posted for the 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th so far. I know in a previous post of mine that Union said the interviews would be the 12th through the 16th. I wonder how many people will be interviewing? There are a total of 28-30 spots looking back at previous threads and the Anesthesia Assitant told me 30 for this class. There are also 3 interview periods as well. I wonder how many will get selected with the priority deadline interviews. I would hate to get waitlisted and have to wait until the very end to find out if I'm in or not.
