Is anyone applying for the second priority deadline for Fall 2016 at Union University? About how long is the wait process to know? Any tips and comments from current students!?

Hello jramz, I have been accepted to join the Fall 2016 ABSN class, and within 3 weeks of applying I received my admissions letter. I think it is great that you started a thread, I've been meaning to network with future classmates. Are you from Jackson TN? Are you a traditional pathway student or ABSN applicant? Good luck

Hi Nurse2b,

I am from Memphis. I just sent in my ABSN application one week ago for all the campuses. Unfortunately, I have to wait for a letter ...possibly I'll find out at the time that people who applied 2nd priority will. It would be great to hear back in 2 weeks from today or before March at least. I'm super nervous. Which school are you attending? What was your major in undergrad? Thanks! :)

It's great to meet you jramz! I was a biology graduate, and I plan on attending the Jackson campus. I still want to be in the college/university life, so that social atmosphere is important to me. Even though I've heard nice things about the other campuses, I didn't want it to feel like I was heading to TN for vocational training/education, I still want it to feel like i'm working towards a graduate career. I'm traveling from the west coast. I did spend some quality time in Louisiana and I always feel so welcomed when I'm in southern states. I think the pace of life and culture resonates with me. Although Louisiana was really humid:arghh:, I'm curious to experience the TN weather for myself. What are some things you love about Memphis or Jackson TN? Have you gone hiking to cummings falls? I'm in my late 20s, and no matter what age, nervous feelings are normal, from one student to another I know how important this is too you. Christian or not, applying to graduate schools/nursing programs, requires faith, as my favorite pastor says "large obstacles require Goliath slaying faith". Do what you can right now to work in harmony with your goals (lending a hand or volunteering), carry Isaiah 41:10 in your heart, and whenever you let the spirit of doubt ferment in your mind, combat those evil feelings with that large shield of faith you own. Go take a jog, talk to a mentor, vent here if you need too. I'm not going to lie, getting accepted validated all my hard work, strengthened my faith, and gave me more than a bolus of confidence. During that period of writing personal statements and owning up to my ambition of being a nurse, I volunteered to go on several medical mission projects outside the country. And instead absorbing all that stateside anxiety and fear...I did everything I could to continue to believe in myself and that I was a right fit for nursing. If you love the art of healing as much as I do, you have my faith and confidence as well. I'm happy to network with another potential student. Cheers

Hey everyone, I turned my application in to the Hendersonville Location January 7, 2016 and Nursing CAS had everything verified January 14, 2016. Now the waiting game begins.

Wow!!! That was a really inspiring message ... an absolute blessing.Thank you so much. I'm from Memphis, it's home so that's what I love it about lol. I also just love the culture and personality of the South. However, I prefer to travel and move around. I'm in my mid-20s and I really should see more of the state of TN in particular but I guess I'll have more time for that. Lol. Where did you do your medical mission trips? I'm thinking of doing a trip soon but to Greece to help with the situation there for a bit.

Hey Renee! Where are you from? Good luck to you! I had to send in another transcript so I'm not sure if it will cause a delay but I hope not. The waiting :( sucks.

Thank you! Good luck to you too! I'm from Memphis as well! But I currently live in Murfreesboro. I go to Middle Tennessee State University finishing up my first undergrad degree in healthcare administration.

Jramz I'm happy my words brought encouragement. The best is yet to come, but just make sure you set yourself up for success! Applying to more than one Union University campus or more than one nursing program ensures that success. I don't know if you have seen it, but I loved UU's medical mission trip video:

. I'm not going to lie, its a touching video especially the part where the male CRNA student sings to his little patient as if she was one of his daughters. Personally, that spirit of love resonates with me, and that is why I chose the nursing path (or it chose me?). If you visit California between now and before the start of the ABSN program there are a few great medical mission organizations and we make monthly trips. On my first trip I went with a team of ER Docs and a wise NP, to a poor community living on a landfill in Tecate, Mexico. It was a humid 104 degrees day, but to connect with the children living in those circumstances was all worth it. On my second 3 day trip, the number of patients doubled to 50. We had this older man with the most handsome green eyes that reminded me of my grandfather. He was recently blind because some toxic paint canister burst in his eyes as he was trying to open it while working on a job to earn a few extra pesos. The lack of access to healthcare in these 3rd world nations is hard to describe, it can really humble you with a heavy heart. Tecate is very similar to the poverty experienced in Tijuana, with the exception that is a dessert and water is the most important resource. Its almost unethical to see a 1 liter bottle of coke sell for cheaper than a same size bottle of water. Other than neglected injuries, toxic shock syndrome (YEA!), infant intestinal problems, diabetes and hypertension remain the top two chief complaints. People among these communities use various addiction methods to cope with the emotional suffering, but you will be surprised how a christian ministry could inspire hope in a neglected community. It definitely strengthens my spirit to provide nursing & medicine to these people, because they say thank you with their hugs and tears whenever we leave. That's #Rewarding. Greece seems awesome! I would love see that country too, maybe a future MSF mission is calling you. I'm tempted to start a new thread for Union University's Fall 2016 Jackson campus, so if any accepted students or potentials see this thread: Welcome! and lets connect. Cheers and keep us updated Jramz

Hey everyone! I plan on starting Union's ABSN program this fall! At the end of December I e-mailed them asking when I should expect to hear about acceptance decisions. I mentioned that I was interested in another program and wanted to make sure I knew if I got accepted to Union before I had to tell the other school yes or no. I got a call the next morning letting me know I got accepted! :)

Hey congrats!!!!! when did you apply? And how long did it take between the time u applied and when u received the email.

Welcome aboard megt! Will you be attending the Jackson campus with me? Congrats and I'm very proud of you.
