Unhappy with CSCC...are there any alternatives?

I submitted my application to CSCC at 9:00 am this morning. Later today, I found out that dozens of other people had the same idea. They camped out in the computer lab and all waited to hit the 'enter' key at 9:00 am. The application was supposedly for Spring '11, but only a few people will get in due to the overwhelming number of applicants from the Fall '10 crowd. I'm fairly certain that I will not start until almost a year and a half from now. I find this frustrating, considering I have the same chance of getting in as someone who has much lower grades than mine (I have a 3.9 GPA). Are there any good alternatives to Columbus State out there?

I don't like physio because i found it boring. I like to fix people. I think patho will be more interesting. I found them equal in terms of how hard they are.

You have to know regular physiology though before you can truly understand patho. One thing I've learned in nursing school is that you must always know the 'norms'

LOL, one of the things I'm NOT looking forward to is whatever we learn about Diabetes again!!! OMG, I've heard variations of Diabetes lectures on what it is and what's wrong with the body 6 times. We have one coming up in physio, and I'm sure we'll hit it in Patho too.... so that'll be 8. Plus Nursing school. Oyi. I could teach a lecture on Diabetes now.:smackingf

There is no treatment or pharmacology in patho. You certainly learn about major disease categories. You learn stages of disease, but it isn't about how to treat or what interventions to take."

True. Patho is purely process based= just like physiology. Just the process, not the intervention. Not to mention there is a distinction between medical interventions and nursing interventions.

I have been accepted into the nursing program starting spring 2011. Yippee!

Was just curious at how long I will wait to get the package in the mail that outlines the steps that I will need to take before my program starts. For example: Shots, background, cpr cert, etc.

Thanks for any info that you may have on this, as well as all of the info that I have read in this blog. Good stuff.

How did u find out?? I called yesterday and was told by the department it would be another 3-4 weeks before decisions were made.

I was part of the crowd that applied in Jan. My application was sent in at 9:04am and I did not get in to the program starting in the Fall. That is OK though - Spring start is fine.

The acceptance letters were sent out for the two classes a couple of months ago. You just need to mail back a form in which you agree to take a seat in the particular class offered to you.

I know that there will be some leg work to do before the start with getting fingerprints and such done; was just wondering when to expect that "to-do" list.

Maybe we will be in the same class. I hope that you get into Spring 11'. : )

Me too!! I submitted my application at 9:00:04AM on July 1, 2010 so I'm REALLY hoping I get in but I have talked to at least 20 people who also applied right at 9am so I'm worried. You had me super excited thinking I'd have a letter when I got home from work today!! haha. I guess I'll have to keep patiently waiting :) If I don't get in to start in March I'll have to look at other career options as I unfortunately don't have the option to wait until Sept 2011.

I wonder what takes them so long?? You can't even get into the application unless you meet all the criteria (I tried in January haha) so I don't understand the lengthy delay in placing people.

I just looked at my calendar to see if I jotted down a note when I received the letter; sorry I didn't. But looking back I believe it was late Feb early March. So no more than 3 months will require all of the patience that you can muster. : )

If the selection process is truly first come first serve, then I would think that the program that allows for an application to be sent in would also be able to quickly send out acceptance letters.

Just thinking about what you said... you tried to apply in Jan, program recognized that you had not yet met the req's so it "quickly" decided to not allow you to follow through with the application. That application program can also be extremely fast about sending out the happy "yes" letters.

I also wonder what takes so long. Hmmm.

Well, I do think that you will get into the spring class! You knew what you were doing!!!! I was a newbie!

Aha! Got an answer to my post.

Just in case anyone else shows up on this blog thread and would like to know when to expect the "Welcome Packet" for nursing Spring 11' cohort:

We should receive that information sometime in December 10'.
