UNC Chapel Hill May 2012

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hi, anybody out there applying for the BSN May cohort for 2012?

I am! I live in California right now but plan is to relocate to NC in the future so if I get accepted, guess we'll be moving next year!

@tarheal2012 can u tell me about the essay part as in wat they didnt like???

Does anyone know when admissions decisions are made for the May 2012 cohort?

I don't think we'll find out until the end of March/beginning of April (it says 12 weeks after the deadline on the online app) - that is a looong wait. Especially when the semester starts on May 15th! They sure cut it close when you compare their cycle to Duke's.

Do they not take the TEAS or Hesi A2? :( Darn it I hate essays...

Anybody else wondering how they look at second degree applicants? I would think many people applying to the two-year BSN program are already enrolled in undergrad at UNC (either sophomores or juniors). I wonder if it helps/hurts/doesn't affect you to be older/out of school...

I'm also applying for May 2012 and am wondering the same thing about second degree students - I graduated in 2004 with ok grades, certainly not perfect, and I'm nervous that some of the mistakes I made when I was an immature 18 years old kid are going to come back to haunt me. I spoke with the admissions director after being rejected the last time I applied and have upped my volunteer work like she advised. I've also REALLY focused on my essays this time around, I think that's part of what got me the last time. I do like that UNC looks at the applicant as a whole rather than focusing solely on grades, etc., and I'm hoping that will help me this time. I just wish I knew already so I could stop worrying about it!!! :uhoh3:

PS - does anybody know for sure if they look at your cumulative GPA, the last 45 credits, just the pre-requisite classes, WHAT???? I've heard so many things about which GPA they look at that I don't know what to believe!

The deadline for the app is December 22nd, right? Just checking. I have heard they look at your cumulative GPA and your science GPA (the one from the five pre-req classes). I've also heard they love volunteer work (which is kind of a given).

The deadline is definitely Dec. 22. I'm not worried about my science prereq GPA, just the cumulative. Again, it wasn't horrible, but it could have been better and I'm stressing myself out worrying about it because I don't have a 4.0! LOL, but then who does really?? I don't think it hurts to be an older student though - I'm 28 and have been out of school (except for doing the prereqs) for 7 years now. I was encouraged by the admissions director to just focus on getting more volunteer hours and improving my essays, so I hope I have done a good enough job to be admitted!

I've never met anyone who has a 4.0 undergrad GPA, ha ha (I don't!). I am sure it doesn't hurt to be older - I would just love to know the percentage of people accepted from undergrad into the BSN and the percentage of older/second-degree students accepted into the BSN. Would be interesting for sure... I am sure you'll be fine if you've worked on fixing what they told you to fix! I keep thinking we'll find out in February-ish but we don't... lol! :)

I know, I really wish we got decisions sooner than March! I hate that it could be as late as April.....I think I'm just so worried about my GPA because I've been out of school for a while and will be competing with younger, potentially higher GPA candidates. I just don't want my past mistakes to prevent this from happening, but I also know that it really doesn't do any good to worry about it like I am. Sigh......it's just a thing the women in my family do, worry like crazy! LOL I feel bad for my boyfriend.....

I wouldn't worry about your GPA. The bad thing about trying to enroll in the nursing program for your junior year of college at UNC is that you have to cram every single undergrad requirement/pre-req into two years, so my friends who went through that definitely did not have perfect GPAs (the time crunch is intense). As long as your pre-req grades are good, I don't think they're going to care too much about your GPA from that long ago. I am also a worrier so I feel your pain! Try not to stress! :)
