UNC BSN May 2013

U.S.A. North Carolina

I just wanted to see if anyone was applying for UNC-Chapel Hill's BSN program starting in May 2013!

I only applied for the BSN since I don't have a completed degree yet. It is nerve wracking and I'm going to be on a cruise with no phone service the week answers are supposed to come out hahaha. Ill be anxious the whole time. UNC is the only place I applied which was dumb but if I don't get in Ill just apply to UNCW for the spring. I don't really want to do the ABSN I'd rather take it slow and make sure I know everything really well rather than rushing through it. They're used to accepting people without completed prereqs so I'm sure that will be fine. I volunteer in the hospital in Wilmington and I started the March of Dimes chapter on UNCWs campus. 400-500 applicants for both degrees is actually pretty good. I expected like 1000. Their dental school receives roughly 7000 applications per year. Also, my mom went to UNCG and absolutely loved it.

@Dane2010 VERY nerve wracking. Especially considering that the Denver school's orientation is March 21st! I also feel bad waiting till the last minute to tell the Denver school that I won't be attending, if I end up getting into CH. I'd rather let the school know that they can let someone else have my spot. What was your first degree in and what pre-reqs do you have left?

@UNChopeful oh my, I can't imagine having to wait even LONGER that the rest of us! In my experience on cruises, sometimes there are random spots of service, so hopefully you can still get some internet!! :)

My first degree was psychology (like more than half the second degree nursing students I've met!) and I'm working on microbiology still. I'm also a student at UNCG since you have to take NUR 210 and 220 at UNCG to be eligible to apply to their program...I'm hoping that might give me an edge :) but not counting on it! I'm not sure if you've already said, but what was your first degree in?

I was reading last year's thread and they mentioned that online decisions were up March 1st! Ahhh, so soon! brittbrittRN, hopefully the same will go for this year and you will have more time

That would be so great! Did the thread mention when their applications were due? I think I remember reading that decisions would take 12 weeks...which would be march 22 I guess. But let's go for march 1st! :)

I just did a little stalking and found that their deadline was december 22 too!

I found the same info as some of you about decisions being made on March 1st; the last two years of applicants were notified then! The past few ABSN cohorts were notified 9-10 weeks out as well. I would love to find out in 6 days :nailbiting:

@dane2010: political science and studio arts. Psych is a great background for nursing!

The majority of the people on the forum last year got rejected. That is extremely unsettling.

Yes, I noticed that as well. Not a nice feeling. We've got to stay positive though!

Hi everyone!!!

I'm so glad someone started this thread. I've been trying not to think about it for the last few months but now that we're close to the acceptance letters, I'm super excited.

Definitely checking back here every day to see if anyone has heard anything or gotten their letters.

Stats:

Third degree seeking student

Have health education degree/lactation consultant

I work in L&D/PP

Cum GPA 3.2/ Science GPA 3.6

Good luck to everyone. I'm not expecting to get in due to my low GPA but anythings possible I guess. I did apply to a second "safe" school and I fully expect that I will be attending this one. But a girl can dream!!!!

I love your enthusiasm! Thanks for sharing your stats, you've got awesome experience (and in the field I want to go into!). Are you an NC resident?

I am getting so nervous/stressed/excited to hear about admissions into the program!!!! Anyone else? Starting Friday (the 1st), I will be checking MyUNC every hour!!

Also, anyone have any ideas about how the school views non-residents?
