UNC ABSN 2015

Published

Hey, all! Since today is the day the ABSN application closes for UNC, I figured I would start a thread so we could see who else applied. I graduated in May from NC State with a bachelor's in public relations. I took my prerequisite science courses at State (since I decided I wanted to pursue nursing late into my Junior year) and finished out my degree. I've been working at UNC hospitals as a CNA since I graduated. Waiting until August is going to drive me nuts! Is anyone else applying to other programs? As far as January start dates go I think only Duke has sent out acceptances, but I didn't apply there. Hope to hear from some of you and go through the wait together!

Thanks Jessica!!!! @tarhealer1 i can absolutely fill you in on the major points if you want find me on facebook Carrie Curr and then we can PM through there, it won't let me PM on here....

Hey everyone!

Just gave up my spot in the class in favor of another program. Good luck to those on the waiting list and good luck to everyone entering the program!

Hey! I am new to this discussion. I was accepted for the ABSN program starting in January. I've been out of town for the past two weeks though, so I am a little behind. Does anybody know where the meeting is tomorrow? In the same auditorium as the information session? I got in late last night so I wasn't able to email admissions to find out! Thanks so much in advance to anybody who can help! Looking forward to meeting some new classmates/ friends tomorrow!

I think it's the same auditorium! I'll be there probably wandering around trying to find it too. If you want to join the Facebook group (link is above somewhere) I can message you with you number and we can try to meet up/ find it together somehow!

Phew! That makes me feel a lot better. I am not on Facebook right now, but I'll try to message you with my number and maybe we can figure something out tomorrow!

Ahhhhhhhhhhh guys i got in off the waiting list. I'm freaking out so hard

I sent you a message on Facebook Carrie. The Facebook group seems pretty quiet.

Hey All, I am wanting to apply to UNC Spring 16 cohort. I've just applied to Duke but want to be ready to apply to UNC if I don't get in to Duke or decide I don't want to pay that much $$. Any advice for me as I apply? I have great grades, a lot of volunteer experience, but nothing at all directly related to nursing. Just in the last 2 years I decided this is what I want to do and have been taking the prerequisites. Did any of you that get in have NO nursing experience??? thanks and good luck to all who are starting in a few weeks!

I am also trying to get into unc absn with no medical volunteer work. I am a mom of 4, competitive distance runner, lead instructor at a karate school...so probably a bit different applicant than they are use to LOL. I have a lot of volunteer work that is not medical (I head 2pta committees and serve in leadership of a third, I teach children's ministry at church, I am a volunteer NC science olympiad coach at the elementary level, an assistant den leader in scouts...etc) but I have no medical volunteer work. I hope this dedication to serving my community along with 3.7 gpa in my English degree from Villanova and 3.9 science prereq gpa are enough to make it into this program....I am very interested to hear if anyone else has gotten in without the medical work .

Hey UNC ABSN students,

I am looking to apply this June for Jan 16 cohort. I was wondering how you all like the program? Also, I wanted to ask if there are opportunities for Global nursing trips during the time you are a student? I have also applied to Duke and I know they have that option but I do not remember it being mentioned at the UNC info session I went to last year.

Overall are you all happy?

Thanks!

The wait is killing me, I have no medical/ volunteer experience. I also applied to duke. I really want to go to duke but for the price might have to go to UNC.

I would be glad to get into either! I hear UNC is harder to get in (for the regular 6 semester program).
