UNC ABSN 2015

Hey, all! Since today is the day the ABSN application closes for UNC, I figured I would start a thread so we could see who else applied. I graduated in May from NC State with a bachelor's in public relations. I took my prerequisite science courses at State (since I decided I wanted to pursue nursing late into my Junior year) and finished out my degree. I've been working at UNC hospitals as a CNA since I graduated. Waiting until August is going to drive me nuts! Is anyone else applying to other programs? As far as January start dates go I think only Duke has sent out acceptances, but I didn't apply there. Hope to hear from some of you and go through the wait together!

Eeeek. Sooo nervous. I live a little over 2 hours from Chapel Hill--did not receive anything in the mail today. Maybe tomorrow. My status is still, "thanks for submitting...your decision is not yet available". Fingers and toes are crossed! Congratulations to everyone who got accepted/waitlisted!! Good luck to everyone still waiting....the suspense is a killer!

Didn't get accepted, but it's okay since I was expecting that. I'm going to call in the next week to go over it and see what I should focus on for next time.

I got my letter today (I live in durham). I got in! Very excited!

I got waitlisted today. Pretty bummed but after seeing everyones posts about their work experience and volunteering I realized that I should have worked harder. Going to stay on the waitlist but I'm not going to rely on that to get in and start working on boosting my application for next year. If people could let me know of any good volunteering opportunities that I could do in the Chapel Hill/Durham area that would be super helpful. I think I will also start CNA training in the next spring semester if I do not get into UNC this round.

Just got my letter from the mail lady...I was also wait listed. Keeping my fingers crossed about getting in. Does anyone know how likely it is to get off the wait list?

Hi Woodardkc,

It definately is possible! I believe you can be pulled in almost right up until classes begin.

Was your portal status updated to reflect a waitlisted status?

Hi, Dylai,

There are a ton of volunteer positions at UNC hospital. I also volunteered with Duke Hospice for a while -- it was extensive training but a wonderful program.

I'd think something like that, plus CNA work, could be really helpful.

I have been volunteering at UNC hospitals for over a year now in the Pediatric Emergency Department. My friends say I need more experience though. I am about to switch from PED to the Pediatric Playroom just for a different scene though.

Yes, my portal was updated today. I find it weird that all the portals did not update at the same time..

Also - to you guys that got in, is their a specific date where you have to accept/decline your offer?

I think they're not all updated at the same time because undergraduate admissions has to manually change the accepted portals while the SON manages the other. And we are supposed to accept or decline by October 23rd! I accepted today.
