Hey Guys!
There's already a general group for applicants for Fall 2015, but since the majority are applying to the BSN program, I wanted to start this thread for people applying to the CNL program.
So...who's applying with me? :)
Hi everyone and congrats to those who got accepted to the CNL program! I am planning to apply to the program for Fall 2016, any advice for someone who has barely started an application yet?
Also, do you think I would have a chance given the fact that my GPA is pretty much the BARE MINIMUM 3.0 (not sure if it will go to a 3.1 based on my last semester grades, which haven't been turned in yet) but still! I am worried about my GPA keeping me from being accepted! Any advice from any lovely person on here would be greatly appreciated....
Start the process as early as possible and don't wait until deadline to turn in application. Also, make sure you fill out the FAFSA before the deadline. I missed it and completely missed an opportunity for all financial aid. I was totally bummed about that.
The process seems long and the wait seems even longer, but hang in there.
I agree with everything kmun911 says but definitely still apply even if you feel your GPA is too low. I had a GPA similar to yours, but I definitely believe they look at your overall application. That being said, prerequisites are very important and I think my experience as a volunteer EMT the last few years helped out a lot. Best of luck to you!
Thanks guys! I really appreciate the advice. I am going to try to do as much volunteering as possible. I am already about to start volunteering in the NICU at Mercy Hospital and I am beyond excited! Also, I had been contemplating on whether or not I should get a CNA license, but then again, I feel as though that is not necessary. I have a friend who is on the same path as me, but is now a CNA because she thinks it will boost up her chances. What do you guys think?
I have zero nursing experience. My bachelor's was in forensics and that is the field I am in now. During the interview I used my medical background from forensics.I would say that it does help to have a background in nursing. It might help you with the program once your accepted. I don't think that having a CNA would be a make or break decision though, but ultimately make your application a little more appealing. This particular program did not focus much on prior patient contact hours, but a CNA license would look good on your resume. Really I think it all depends on the rest of your application. Regardless anyone that meets minimum requirements is granted an interview.
The choice is ultimately yours. I can only say that I was accepted without a CNA and I heard of people who were not accepted who were a CNA.
