UMSON BSN Spring 2014

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

Hi everyone! I created the BSN Fall 2013 topic, but I couldn't apply at that time due to family issues. So now I'm applying for Spring 2014! Anyone else applying? :]

Congratulations Nsmu! I'm happy for you! We all knew that you were going to get it. :)

OMG!!!!!!! Thank you my Lord Jesus!!!! Finally I got in...'Admit Institution'... This what my status says. I wish you all the best!!! Never give up on your dreams. Keep on praying!!!!

Wooooo-hooo! :roflmao:

When I read you got it in, I jumped UP and did a happy dance for you!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-HAW!

Hello all!

So exciting to read from start to finish all these posts on acceptances! Congratulations to all who got in!

I do have a question regarding deferment to anyone who can help. I got accepted to the Baltimore campus, but unfortunately I have some financial issues that popped up that I have to deal with before I can finally jump into the Nursing Program. I'm hoping I could defer to the Fall 2014 semester in the meanwhile, and give someone on the waiting list my spot. Is that a possibility? Or would I have to reapply again?

Cnary, congrats on being accepted, but definitely sounds like a question for an admissions advisor. I'd try calling the one who called you on your acceptance. I hope you get good news!

Two weeks ago I got that answer. I was told the acceptance letter discusss that option. I was told that you can petition the Admissions Committee in writing for a deferment- and it's up to them. I was told that they don't offer deferments liberally and that you must have a really, really good reason for them to offer it.

Good luck!

Thank you all!!!! I'm soooooooo happy !!! :)

New Here :)

Congratulations to All that got accepted into their desired Schools.

As for me i got into UMSON baltimore and Towson :) now my dilemma is calculated the approximate cost of tuition per semester; uniform, books.supplies. I keep seeing different amounts for UMSON (First choice) ahh :( im guessing its from $7000 - $8000 total ?

Also those that got phone calls got the merit scholarship ?

Hi. I am currently a second semester student at the Baltimore campus, going into my third semester in Spring 2014.

You really don't need to purchase every book for your first semester. I personally believe that is just a waste of money so do yourself a favor and just rent textbooks for your first semester. Also, the school library always has a textbook on hold. It just sucks that you can't borrow it and take it home with you.

So, just rent it from textbook rental site or somewhere and instead, use the money you saved on a drink because most likely, alcohol will become your best friend during your tenure at nursing school.

Another good hint for you is to look for UMSON Facebook page where previous semester students will be selling their textbooks for cheap.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

I will be glad to answer them!

@sarahpcat,

First of all, congrats on getting accepted!

Sorry for the late response, as I was extremely occupied with school work and clinicals :bluecry1:

I was a Spring 13' admit, and I am so so glad I am attending UMSON. Ok, so about your tech question... As long as you get a "C" or above in Fundies/304 (Fundamentals of Nursing), Assessment/333, and Pathopharm/315, you are automatically qualified to get a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) license. Then, you go to Maryland State Board of Nursing to apply for the CNA license, and within several weeks, you will obtain a temporary license for three months. A few days before that three months pass, you call them and let them know that your temporary license is about to expire, and then they will give you a two year permanent license. So, you can definitely work as a tech/student nurse (even with the temporary license) as long as you obtain at least a C.

At UMSON, A = 4.0 (from 89.5), B= 3.0 (79.5 - 89.4), C = 2.0 (69.5 - 79.4) and so on. No pluses or minuses. Anything below a C, you fail. However, keep in mind that you need at least a 2.5 GPA in order to graduate. You might think ... pshhh 2.5, I can pull that off in a heartbeat... but be prepared. Be very prepared.

Also, I necessarily didn't look for a job as a tech/student nurse during the Summer 13'. After the beating that I took from the first semester, all I wanted to do was just enjoy myself. However, several of my friends who applied around April or so were able to find the job.

Hope I answered all of your questions.

If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

This was entirely too helpful. So glad that someone who currently attends the school can shed some insight:woot:Now I have somewhat of an idea as to what I'm getting into.

Has anyone on waitlist receive their letter in the mail?

Schang03 where did you hear that waitlist gets a letter? I didnt think we did.
