Hello everyone! It's my first time posting on this website. Just wanted to see who else is applying for the BSN program for Fall 2013? Any advice for new applicants? :)

Yep, I'm applying for Fall 2013!
I'm just about ready to send everything in except my TEAS score, which I'm retaking in January. I'm already waaaaaay nervous and feel like I'm mostly relying on my volunteer experience, recommendation letters, and essay.
My grades are above the min but still aren't fabulous. TEAS score is still to be determined. I'm praying to at least be waitlisted...
Good luck to everyone applying!!

Hello ambz2013,
Could you tell me where did you do the volunteer activities and for how long have you done it? Do you need to submit any health document or shots?
I would earn 2 Cs at the end of this semester TT.TT Should I retake them, they are not the major science courses, though.
I have trained and volunteered as an EMT for the past year. There is an extensive physical you must pass and shots should be up to date. However, most fire stations do not take people who can't guarantee at least a 2-year commitment.
Volunteers must maintain a MIN of 12hrs a week on duty (I usually spend 18-24 a week). It is also not for everyone and definitely not something that should be done solely because you want to beef up your admissions application. There are many many opportunities to volunteer in hospitals, crisis centers, under served populations ect. Just find what appeals to you. However, If this appeals to you and you can make the commitment, I definitely recommend doing it.
I can't really give advice on your two Cs. All I know that UMSON looks at the entire application. I have some poor grades too, but as long as we are above the 3.0 we are still eligible to apply.
So, lets do this! :)

If you have time and money to retake them, go for it. Otherwise i wouldn't stress too much on those. Just kick ass on those perquisites. The GPA from my classmate ranges from 3.0 to 4.0.

This is my first time posting here too! I was originally a nursing major, but changed. Then, in the last week, I decided to just close my eyes and apply! I have already had all of my pre-requisites finished for quite some time. I have a 3.307 GPA at UMCP. I finished all of my supplementary application materials too. All I have to do is take the TEAS (which I plan to on Jan. 15th). My biggest issue is my recommendations. I have contacted 4 professors, but no one has replied. Do you think they will reject me if my recommendations are late?

Hello. This is my first time posting here too. I too have applied to UMSON's Fall 2013 BSN program. I am a career changer, and as my SN implies, I already hold a B.S. in music. I've nearly completed the prerequisites, just a couple to go. So far I have a 4.0 in all the prerequisites and a TEAS V score of 97%. But I have minimal experience in any medical field, so I hope my grades make up for that. If I get in, it will be quite a commute for me so I've also applied to a more local ADN program. I haven't decided which program I will do if I get into both of them. They both have pros and cons and I change my mind daily as to which I will choose.
I took the TEAS again today and am SO happy I did. I got 14 points higher than my previous score! :)
To anyone in doubt about retaking it: Study, study, study and you will improve!
Is everyone getting close to submitting everything? I'm just waiting on my last letter of recommendation.. nerve wracking!
I just took my TEAS today for the first time, and managed to pull an 84.7%. But I didn't study much, and I'm worried it might not be enough to get me in, because I also have a couple C's soooo nervous!!!

I'm about to start spring semester as a new admit.
I did not have the best GPA, but I have a lot of extracurriculars and I did well on the TEAS. Don't let anything get you down, if you are worried about your grades, try to explain them in your essay. I worked as a CNA for the past year and that may have helped, but don't let anything stand in your way. Apply with what you have and hope for the best!
