UMHB Nurses!

Published

Hey Fellow Nursing Cru. I posted a while back about my acceptance into UMHB CON in the Fall of 2011 and from that I have had the privilege of meeting a few other nurses on allnurses from UMHB. So I figured  , why not start a forum for all of us Cru on this network to help each other out with questions and simple conversations. Questions can be about anything from classes, to teachers, to campus buildings, to great places to eat or let out stress in Belton.

Whether you are pre-reqs, just accepted, applying, or all the way up to S2, I invite you to join in this community forum as another way to simply stay in contact, encourage and help each other our as best way as we can!

We could even get together sometime on campus as a fun study break this forum is COMPLETELY open for whatever you feel like posting.

The Forum is yours and hope you enjoy!

Side note, just out of curiosity to see how many UMHB nurses are on allnurses, even if you don't have a question post who you are and what level. I have no idea how many of us are on here and it would be neat to find out :D

I graduated from UMHB two years ago! I'm happy to answer any questions as well.

Hi, I do have some questions. How hard was it to get in? I only have a 3.0 and am waiting for my acceptance letter in april. Also, was the program very time consuming? How many hours are actually spent at school/doing clinicals

The program is as time consuming as you make it. You typically have classes two days, and clinical another one or two days, depending on which semester you're in. I was able to work as a student nurse and go back to Austin every weekend to have a life. I was one of the top students in my class, making all A's and one B. Just use your time wisely, and you'll be fine.

I'm so happy to find someone from UMHB I have been back and forth with Ms. Carpenter for the past year I plan on applying for the SPRING 17 however I have gotten C's on all my science classes. I plan on retaking some of the other prerequisites to boost my gpa to the minimum. But what are the chances of getting in with C's as long as my gpa is above the minimum. This is stressing me out so bad. More than anything I really really want this.

That's a great question! I will also apply for the spring 2017 semester! Hope we can get some guidance on here.

Hello guys. I'm hoping to apply for spring of 2017. I have a question for those of you who've taken the Kaplan entrance exam. How many sections of the exam did you take? From the school's website there's a score for the Math and Reading that needs to be met. Does that mean those are the only sections in the exam? Thanks for your help.

Hey guys! I will be starting this Fall. I had one C in Chemistry when I applied and I got in. *Actually after reviewing my transcript, it was a B-. But let me say this was about 8 years old and I currently hold a B.S. in Biology. I had to spend a year taking a few pre-req's, and for the last 5 semesters of college education, I have straight A's. They factor in a lot more than just GPA into their admission process. The Kaplan wasn't bad. I remember math, writing, reading comprehension, and a science portion. It may be more. Overall, I got an excellent score, but don't remember what I got on each section. I skimmed the Kaplan study guide prior to testing, but to me it wasn't really helpful. The exam was not a reflection of what I saw in the book.

Thank you. I'm currently at CTC completing my pre-reqs. Congrats on getting in and good luck!!

You're welcome! And good luck on to you as well!

Hi guys. I also want to apply to UMHB for spring 2017. It kinda sucks cause i have to take the Kaplan, plus Hesi and TEAS for other schools. If u do get accepted, how do u plan to pay for it since UMHB is quite expensive. Plus is the school really competitive?

The school is ridiculously expensive but luckily I'm able to use hubby's Gi Bill. I have an appointment with Mrs Carpenter Monday morning. I'm hoping she can answer my questions about improving my chances of getting in. She asked me to bring any unofficial transcript I have.

I have a friend who graduated last year from UMHB who sang praises of the school. Not sure about competiveness but according to everything I've read, if your pre-reqs are completed and you have an acceptable Gpa of at least 3.0 and you do well on your Kaplan, you'd be able to get in.

I will be using my husband's GI Bill as well. Stacy is really great and will answer all of your questions.

I don't think it's that competitive. But the cost surely is expensive. The one on one, teaching styles, and experience is worth it to me. This is my fourth university and I have never had an experience like this.

How are the classes overall? I've been to a nursing program that lectures didn't even matter for exams, had to self teach for a whole year, so this makes me nervous since it's super expensive!
