Hi everyone!
Since application season is in full-swing, I thought I'd start a forum for those of us applying to the UMass GEP Program for fall 2017. I'm applying to the family specialty! Best of luck everyone!
The Housing Opportunities link has some apartments where it is $400-800 for apartments "within walking distance." That sounds really good and I hope we can obtain those. I looked on zillow and other sites like that quickly for rentals and they show apartments to be $1000+, so I'm not really sure.
I would want to live within walking distance so it would be more convenient. I live an hour away from Worcester so I will have to drive around some day to look. I was thinking of looking before/after Orientation day.
That would be great, I will check out that link too. Are you looking to live closer to the UMASS campus? I think living close to where classes would be would add an important level of convenience as long as housing isn't too crazy expensive there.
Hi, sorry for the late response- we are back from spring break this week, so I'm getting back into the swing of things.

As far as housing, it's sort of a mixed bag. People live with their parents, significant others, roommates, alone, etc. I know that a couple people found an apartment together. I think Facebook is probably the easiest way to coordinate that, if you guys have a group.
There are 31 people in our class, and we work together pretty well. I think some people have study groups, and others prefer to study alone. I would definitely suggest trying to get your class together for some bonding time, because I think being friendly with your classmates just makes the whole program more doable. Hope that answers your questions!
Hi Becky,
Thank you so much for your response, very helpful to know. And I have one more question for you. So you chose the DNP over the MSN route in pursuit of a role as a ACNP if I read one of your above posts correctly. My question is so far, are you happy with your choice of the DNP route? I feel like there is such a mixed review on the question of MSN vs. the DNP. I definitely like the idea of the DNP for mobility within the field, and I think more knowledge in your chosen specialty is very important as well. I am on the FNP track, and I would love any input you have in that regard.
Hi All, I just got accepted for GEP FNP program and am so pumped! I just requested to join the fb group--just wanted to double check that it's the UMass Med GEP 2017, correct? There was a "UMass Med GEP class of 2021" which had only 2 members so I wasn't sure. Thanks! Looking forward to meeting you all and getting started in August!

I'm looking at housing too and the link that Becky posted about Housing Opportunities is really helpful. I would definitely love to discuss with you about options/suggestions if you like.
