UMass Boston Summer 2021 ABSN

Published

Hi everyone!

I've applied to UMass Boston's ABSN program for the Summer 2021 cycle. Has anyone else? I feel applications are going to be sporifice this cycle!

Hey,

I applied for Summer cycle as well.  I'm curious as to why you think that applications will be sporifice this time round?

I figured that if nothing else, there would be an ever so slight uptick. In the info sessions, they mentioned that they're expanding seats.  But, I feel also, that Covid doesn't have as hard a grip on people's lives as it did in previous months (still terrible thought).  Given that, people are going back to their plans or making new ones; and I think this pandemic got a lot of people interested in working in healthcare (and those already work in it wanting out).

Either way, now I'm sitting on pins and needles!

Hi,

I'm also applying for the Summer cycle. Have you guys heard reviews about this program, it's one of the shortest ones I've seen (12 months). I'm just afraid I'm going to miss out on certain things I absolutely have to know while in nursing school.

I'm sorta hoping that the students are too busy to write/respond to reviews.  I've found no student feedback regarding this program which I find odd.

But, in terms of missing out on concepts, from what they presented, it seems like it depends on what kind of learner you are.  I like the idea of concept based learning and find it more helpful than rote memorization.

I applied as well! I’m also curious as to whether or not there will be a decrease or increase in applications because of covid. My undergrad GPA is just teetering on the minimum requirement but I did get all A’s in my prerequisite courses so I am really hoping that’ll be enough to get in.

Hello! I applied as well. Hopefully, we have better odds this cycle than the other ones.

I'm curious, did anyone attach their resume to the application?

I didn’t attach my resume! I saw in a previous cohort that people said they had 3 recommendation letters. I didn’t even think of that as an option since it specified 2.

Hi everyone!

I just have a thought there will be less applications because people are still worried about everything being online (as am I, but I can't keep my life on hold!). Who knows though!

I did attach a student resume to my application.

Hopefully we hear back sooner rather than later.

Hi,

Yeah, I didn't think of attaching 3 letters of recs as I only included the two. I am so nervous to hear back a month from now.

Also, did anyone go over the 500-word count? I found it to be challenging including everything I wanted to say in such a short essay.

I kept it at 500 but wanted to make it longer so badly.

I attached a resume.  I'm hoping that my pretty stellar job/volunteer history will sway the decision a bit since my college GPA wasn't so great.

I'm pretty famous for going over the word count considerably.  I'm proud of myself that I only went over this time by 27 words.

One month can't come fast enough!

I applied as well. Looking back, decisions historically come out right at the one month mark give or take a few days. At the last info session, they mentioned it was looking like less applicants for this cohort compared to previous cohorts at the time, but that was a few weeks ago and things may have changed.

I spoke to a few current students. There seems to be a lot of confusion in the beginning with getting up and running with all of virtual components and trying to figure out what to learn and how to learn it. Since it's still a relatively new program, there are kinks to be worked out, but it seems to be improving slowly with each new cohort. I sent in my resume, only because they said they would accept them at the info session, but I heard nothing about extra letters of recommendation. Interesting...Anyway, best of luck to everyone!
