Umass boston RN-BSN online program

Its a great program, I highly rec. it! I graduated from MCC for RN. I graduate from UMB next month!!! As long as you are committed online programs arent not bad. I actually really like them. I work full time and have a 13 month old! There were no tests. There were 1-2 papers per nursing class. I clept out of nutrition and pharmacology. There was a presentation in all nursing courses(which was group work) and the only clinical was in the community nursing course. I think it was 60 hours. I volunteered at the middle schools doing scoliosis screenings. I really enjoyed it and continue to volunteer even though I am finished the course.

Sounds like something very do-able while working full time! I was looking through some of the class descriptions. Could you please tell me more about the presentations? How does that work since its an online class? Also what is the capstone paper and the service learning project? Could you tell me in your opinion what the hardest and best part of the program has been? :) Congrats on finishing soon!

Definitely doable working full time! Presentations are done in groups. You buy a headset with a microphone and thats how you participate in your weekly class. It usually a 2 hour class and not all are mandatory. The presentation days are usually the mandatory classes. You present the project using your microphone and there are separate 'classrooms' where you can log on and meet up with your group to discuss the project. Im doing the capstone paper this month. You chose the topic and write 10-12 pages. The service learning project was last semester in the community course. You find a clinical site to volunteer at(i think 60 hours) and you write a report on it. I volunteered with scoliosis screenings at middle schools. I really enjoyed it and still volunteer now. This capstone I guess would be the hardest thing since its such a long paper. I think the prof. are the best part of the program. They are very patient and great at explanations and teaching on their subject. I did not find the program to be very difficult. I did learn a lot and highly rec. the program!

Are the presentations presented online then? I'm just curious how many times I would need to commute to the campus..... Also, did they offer good financial aid? :)

All the presentations are done online. I never had to commute to school for a class. I live in FL. The only time I went on campus was to clep the pharmacology course. (But that was 2 months before I moved to FL). My husbands military so I have the GIBill, dont know about their financial aid.

Not sure where you're from...but...I applied to Umass Boston in Feb 2012....I've been patiently waiting for my response and finally called undergraduate admissions when my application changed from "complete" to "incomplete." When I spoke to someone they informed me that they are no longer accepting students from out of state for this program. I am from Virginia. No call, no application refund, no letter, no change to their requirements on their website--very unprofessional--and I told her so. Still, this was very discouraging. They seem to have a great program. Just wanted to let you know. I

WOW I cant believe that. I graduate this June. Our Prof. in this last course told us that the program was so popular now that courses were filling up rapidly and there was a wait list. I didnt know they werent accepting students from out of state any more. Did she give you a reason why??

I just finished the UMass Boston BSN completion program. It seems that they

have had some changes to the program recently. I have heard that they

will no longer be taking out of state students. They have had at least two

professors resign. One of these professors was a lead professor in the online

BSN program. The online student advisor has also changed.

I'm not sure about the rationale to limit enrollment for an online program to in-state

students only. But I can say that the class sizes were always a little big for my

liking. There were usually between 30-40 students in a class. Sometimes more

than 40. I found that to be too much. The classes were synchronous meaning that

you would all meet via an electronic classroom at a predetermined date and time.

I found that helpful as far as being able to interact and ask questions.

Overall I'd say that the professors were high caliber and

knowledgeable about their subject area. For example my professor in legal was

a nurse-attorney. My health assessment professor was an NP.

The program does require quite a bit of reading, researching, paper writing, etc.

I definitely learned how to write an academic paper in APA style which while

it won't help me at work will definitely help in grad school.

I am in the RN to BSN online program at Anna Maria College. Much better program than UMASS Boston. They take you through every step of the process. Professors are great and you actually get to speak to someone if you call the school. Unlike UMASS Boston, I tried reaching the Nursing Dept. for 3 months and never a call back. No thanks, I do not want to go to a school that cannot even call back. I can't even imagine how their BSN program is run, and I would never want to find out. Anna Maria online RN to BSN Program is the best.

it's not as great as it sounds.. they have changed faculty numerous times! and have also changed the way they run the program.
