UMass Boston Accelerated BSN 2011

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Application due date is February 1. Anyone else working on this?

I just attended the info session on Tuesday the 11th (right before the big snow storm!), which was somewhat helpful, though the speaker seemed to be trying to discourage some people from applying. I think she just wanted to emphasize that they don't even look at applications if you haven't got all your prereqs completed, and that you'll be so busy you can't even think about having a job at the same time... She put a big emphasis on seeking 'diversity' in their student cohort, and I think it made a bunch of people wonder just what she meant by that.

One thing I've been wondering about is including a resume or CV with the application. They don't list one as needed or even optional, so I was wondering if including one could in any way hurt or help my application.

I hope someone else out there is going through the same thing and would be willing to post about their experiences. :o

congr to those got accepted, do u mind sharing ur status ?

What do you mean status? We're all waiting to hear about fin aid... already registered for summer/fall classes... ordering uniforms/stethoscopes soon... orientation may 23... start may 31.

i mean ur gpa, community involvement, etc

Ohhh! Sorry! haha...

I have about a 3.6 GPA from doing my nursing pre-reqs (Got pretty much all A's in the classes that were needed for UMass)... I've been working as a CNA for about 6 months... Wrote a really good 500 word essay that got straight to the point and interviewed well. 700 applicants this year... 40 were selected... its very competitive! :nurse:

for what it's worth, my GPA for pre-requisite classes (Chemistry, A&P, microbio) was 4.0. i think my GPA from my bachelor's degree (about 18 years ago) was 3.2. I took my pre-reqs 2 classes each semester at Mass Bay Community College while working full time.

I believe my work in biotech helped a lot. I've been a research assistant in a drug discovery company for a few years and that probably looks impressive.

i don't think i mentioned community involvement, although I happen to be a member of a church, and i have done some volunteer stuff here and there.

the accelerated BSN programs in MA which I'm aware of are Curry college, Mass college Pharmacy (Worcester MA and Manchester NH actually), MGH IHP, and UMB. oh, and Simmons, but that's for women undergrad.

i happen to get certified as a C.N.A. but did not actually get part time work. (i already had 2 jobs!) but C.N.A. work will definitely look good on an application, but more important - let you know how much you like nursing! (I worked as a C.N.A. many years ago).

hope that helps - keep pursuing your dreams - you WILL achieve them!

peace

Ken
