UM ABSN SPRING 2019

Published

Hi guys!

I'm currently completing my undergrad+prereqs to apply in the next year to UM's ABSN program for the Spring 2019 session (Apps due next august). I know it's a very premature thread but I thought there might be other applicants for the Spring 2019 session who are already freaking out about apps like me. If any students who were accepted for previous threads could share their experience, tips, or stats here that would be incredibly helpful.

We got this.

Thanks! Did you enter your courses manually or have nursing cas do it for you? I wonder if one or the other would be verified quicker.

I entered them manually. I've read of others who paid to have it done and said it was worth it, more so for saving time. They verify it pretty quick, as long as all your information is accurate

Good to know! I've read on other threads they make take weeks. It must depend on volume of requests I suppose!

Correct! I believe it took them around the same timeframe to verify mine. The transcripts came in pretty fast so once that's in they begin verifying.

I entered the courses myself just make sure you enter the course credits accurately. My undergrad college had a very different credit policy where every class no matter what it was, was only 1 credit. So you have to make sure you do credit conversions accurately or nursing CAS will reject the transcript and you will have to enter everything all over again!!

Does anyone happen to know the statistics for UM's program? How many people applied, accepted, backgrounds, GPA's, etc...

I too did it manually! I didn't know there was an option that you could pay Nursing CAS to do them. It takes time but definitely doable!

Well, from their FAQs it says they accept around 70 students each year. I've tried and failed at finding more info on acceptance statistics. As for personal stats, I've asked and no one has said anything on this thread. But from previous thread it seems there's quite a lot of variability on who gets accepted. So I'm guessing it is a pretty subjective/holistic process, taking in the many different parts of the application. Personally, my overall gpa is a 3.47 and my pre-req gpa is 3.61. They're pretty low but I'm coming in from my doing my undergrad and most pre-reqs from an pretty intense Ivy League school, I'm hoping they take that into account. I've done some significant international global health internships and laboratory work, so hopefully that counts as well.

Hey everyone! I submitted my application March 30th, however I just finished my nutrition class yesterday. I plan to send out my updated transcripts to NursingCAS immediately, but will the school be notified of my updated transcripts or do I need to send them an email/ a copy of the transcripts?

I think you need to send the updated transcript directly to UMiami!

My stats:

Undergrad from UCLA class of 2017 with 3.41 GPA.

Im not sure about my prerequisite GPA but they're mostly A's with about 1-2 B's. Still finishing up Microbiology and Physiology which will be done by the end of June. I've done a Care extender internship which is volunteering at the Ronald Reagan Hospital, worked at a Neuro-Oncology office where I was able to publish an abstract, done research with a professor. I believe my extracurricular activities and letter of recommendation are the strongest. Was verified this February so I'm waiting anxiously to hear back! Was accepted to Loyola Chicago, Duke, and Emory but U of M is my first choice because of how fast the program is (12 months) and is significantly cheaper than the other programs

I just spoke with a rep in the admissions office and they have started going through our applications!! They said bc of the rolling decisions people who submitted early should get emails soon about what decision has been made for them!
