Ultrasound screening tests

Wondering if you can help or direct me to appropriate Forum or website for what is needed to do ultrasound screenings. Diagnostics would NOT be performed, just the screenings.

Besides ultrasound equipment, are there state requirements? Can this be used as clinicals for ultrasound training program? ANY information, direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,

What kind of screenings are you talking about Bob. Have you checked with IDPH? I live in central IL and I'm not quite sure what you are asking.

Well hopefully I am replying correctly to you, as I'm new to Allnurses.

We are planning to run Carotid Artery/Stoke, Peripheral Arterial and Abdominal Aortic scanns. If sonographer 'see' something that requires immediate attention, patient would be directed to see their doctor. If not, results would be mailed to patient within 21 days to review with their doctor.

I did not contact IDPH, as I wasn't sure if it was necessary to just do the screenings. As replies come in, HOPEFULLY I will be able to see what I do need to do!..

PLEASE, keep asking questions so *I* can try and figure this out.

Okay, so these will be screenings - how will you get referrals? What about reimbursement? Are you a sonographer? What standard of care are you held to? I wish you luck.

Let try these one at a time.

1. Referrals - thru advertisement in local newspapers. Since it's first starting, we don't have patient referrals yet.

2. Reimbursement - we will be accepting cash or credit cars only. Patients would then submit bills thru their insurance.

3. Sonographer - NO, can't even spell it yet. The sonographer is an instructor at our school and is RDMS certified.

4. Standard of care - since we are NOT a medical facility, we do the screens and have Cardiologist/Radiologist (board certified) review the images.

Thanks again,

Bob
