UK RN Studying in USA, have question about degree

I trained in the UK getting a DIPHE in nursing and want to start my BSN in Nursing. I work in the USA and find it hard to find a degree program, as I really dont want to take all the non-nursing courses. So I have looked into taking a online course offered by the RCN. Have any of you that have re-located to the USA tried to take a degree course. If you did take a online UK degree, did your employer recognise the degree...I have concerns that if I take a online UK degree, my emplyer will not pay the extra hourly salary that a BSN nurse gets.

Thanks for any insight

A BSN requires the non-nursing courses in the US. Does your program in the UK actually offer "BSN" or does it call it something else?

It is called a BSC, a bachelors in science, which is basically the same thing, it is a four year degree, but the modules within the degree are all nursing related, as it is expected that you have your pre-requisites when you start, that you basic education supplies you with all the general knowledge you need..

I think some of the confusion may be due to the differences in secondary education in the US compared to the UK. If I'm not mistaken (please correct me if I'm wrong) you all graduate high school with the equivalent of our first year or two of college. That is to say, there is no need for you to take English or World History or remedial algebra 101.

Is it possible to convince the University to which you're applying that the British system of education is different and that you should be credited with much of the first two years of general studies? Alternatively, can you take exams and challenge your way out of taking unnecessary courses?

Good luck on whatever path you end up taking.

What is going to be the difference for you as far as cost by doing a rpogram from the UK vs. here. Most hospitals will pay for part of your tuition here for furthering your studies, not ure that they will do it for a program in another country. Most BSN programs do not have alot of fluff if you already have your RN.
