Uk nurse needing advice!!!

Published

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can give me some help and advice. Basically my sister is an RN in New Jersey and I want to move from here in the UK to live with her in New Jersey.

I am a RMN, I have 7 standard grades, 4 highers, a B.A degree in Behavioural Sciences (basically Psychology) and my Degree in higher education (Nursing). I have worked for 6 years as a D Grade Staff Nurse in a secure forensic psychiatric ward.

I am currently having my qualifications looked at by CGFNS to see if I qualify as a LPN I know I dont qualify as an RN.

The help I need is can I get a visa to work as an LPN? Do I approach local NJ hospitals about work? I am also willing to go to the USA on an F1 student visa and do the full 3 years RN course if thats what it takes do you think this would be possible? Do you think I could get an F1 visa I have my house which I will sell to show suffecient funds to support myself and my husband for the 3 years though I am not sure how much I will need to show that is "sufficient funds" there is just me and my husband. I thought I could always go out on an F1 visa and do the LPN to RN conversion to if my qualifications will allow this.

What are they looking for at the visa interview for the F1 visa are they looking for me to prove I want to come back to the UK or are nurses needed enough in USA that if I was going out on an F1 visa to do the RN course they would not care if I wanted to return to UK?

Any help or information would be much appreciated!!!

You cannot get a visa that would permit you to work in the US with the LPN degree. It takes the RN after your name and a Visa Screen Certificate.

Next, slow down and take a deep breath.

For your program, did you do the three year route, with 18 months of general nursing and then 18 months of mental health training? If so, you would just need to make up the hours in the needed areas and not complete an entire program again.

Please be very specific in the training that you did and the actual types of courses in your program, then I can tell you what you will need to do.

like Suzanne says take a nice deep breath and relax. It ma be that you just have to make hours up which will be a lot easier the only problem is finding somewhere in the UK to make the hours. It may mean going to another country or the US for this, the hours have to be both practical and theory and by a regcognised school of nursing

Good luck
