hi all,
i am a newbie to the site having only registered a couple of days ago. i'm really impressed with the site and need some help gathering information.
i am hoping to start my nursing diploma next september here in the uk. i am taking the adult nursing course and at the end of it i want to emigrate my family to either australia or new zealand.
i just want to get a feel for where would make the most sense to move to.
i keep reading horror stories about the new zealand economy and introverted communities. this is a worry as i live in a country where the economy is already shaky so i don't want to jump out of the proverbial frying pan and into the fire.
a lot of nurses in nz seem to think that australia is the best place to go and a lot of them seem to migrate that way.
any help would be appreciated as this is a pretty major decision.
one more question: do i need a degree or will my diploma suffice? if not what kind of assimilation training will i need and how much does it cost?
many thanks.:bowingpur

G'day and Welcome to allnurses!
Naturally I'm going to suggest you consider moving to Australia! :)
I think you would like our lifestyle and the climate. The people aren't too shabby either! lol ... Weelll, some of 'em are! lol But overall, we're a pretty fine mob. :)
As for your nursing qualifications ... to work in Australia as a registered nurse, you need a Bachelor of Nursing Degree (or equivalent as recognised and accepted by the nurses board here.) I'm not familiar with whether or not the British Diploma is equivalent, someone else might be able to advise on that.
The Diploma of Nursing here in Oz is what the enrolled nurses study for.
As for the economy ... http://au.biz.yahoo.com/financenews/aus_econ.html

I hope this is of some help to you and wish you every success as you strive to accomplish your goals.
