Thanks for starting this thread! I received the mock interview invitation as well, but unfortunately won't be able to make it since I live out of state. Do you know when official interview invitations will be sent out?
I'm not sure when the actual invites will happen but I'm hoping the invite to the mock interviews is a good sign. Plus, the last mock interview dates is Feb 22 so its a good bet real interviews might happen after that date.
argh!! I really wish UIC would provide applications updates like this rather than having to stumble upon them..
2018 application interviews will take place the week of February 19, 2018. Exact dates will be announced soon. An interview sign up will be e-mailed to qualified applicants 2-3 weeks after the application deadline.
I went to the Mock Interview last night and it was an overall great learning experience. We were given a hand out with a list of great questions to study (I'll post those at the end).
The setup consisted of both the GEM and the BSN applicants which we were then separated into just BSN and GEM. The GEM group was again broken up into two smaller groups where my group consisted of 9 people and I believe the same amount in the other group. The 9 of us hopefuls sat in a semi circle with our interviewer, who was as student in her second year, lead the group. She explained the set up would be similar come the actual interviews except in smaller groups (1-3) and last 30 mins. Each person will be asked the same question and be ready for some good ones.
Here are the 4 questions my group was asked:
1 - If not for nursing, what other profession would you have considered?
2 - How do you deal with stress?
3 - What two qualities are need to be a successful leader?
4 - What do you think is the most pressing issue in healthcare?
We were told that although some of our answers seem to be similar it was ok as long as we made it our own answer and give examples when possible. The best point was the healthcare question will definitely be asked and be sure to have a solid footing on what you will respond.
One great pointer was to avoid filler words (ie. like, um, uh), be friendly, use confident body language and maintain eye contact - basically stay engaged the entire time. There were also tips on what to wear and what not to wear - even though it was a mock interview I dressed the part - I mean com'on people its a GRADUATE program - you never know who will be conducting the mock interviews. Be always prepared to have at least a 1 minute monologue about yourself - highlight career events using specific examples and remember to link it to the field/role as a clincher at the end. UIC is also so inclusive in its diversity so be sure to bring in diversification/inclusiveness when possible. Also, research the College of Nursing (uic.edu/nursing) - the interviewers likes to see that you know something about the school.
The Q&A portion it was also stated that people have skyped in their interview before so thats advantageous for those that are out of state/country.

I haven't seen a post about UIC GEM 2018 program so I figured I'd start it.
Has anyone else been invited to the mock interviews and planning on attending?
