UHV Second Degree BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

Hi all, anybody out there applying for this program? I haven't seen an updated thread on it yet. I just finished applying to UHV- just waiting on NursingCAS to receive my final transcript for my application to be considered "complete" I'm also applying to UTHSCH UTHSCSA accelerated programs, and TWU-Houston traditional BSN program. I have my B.S. in Human Biology from UT Austin in Spring 2010. My undergrad GPA was definitely less than stellar, but all my pre-req coursework is not too bad. What is y'alls impression of this program?

So glad the interview is over!! I'm glad that I got to meet a few of y'all today, and hopefully I can meet the rest of you at orientation in January! Fingers crossed that we all get in :) from what I heard today, there were only about 60-70 of us at the interview, so I'm hoping that means that our chances of getting accepted are pretty good!

Yea I guesstimated 72 hehee I was in group E! =) Thank you current students for answering our questions!!! I appreciate it :D

I liked that the professors seemed pretty chill!

Yes! On the paper they gave us it says we should find out after December 4, so I'm hoping we hear something this Thursday or Friday! :)

I'm super glad that it's over with as well! Unfortunately, I was not rocking the pink pencil skirt. After much consideration, I opted for a black skirt suit, especially considering my sister;s and business friend's thoughts on business professional. ;( lol Anyway, I was the one who asked about their CCNE accreditation. Hopefully I'll get to meet more of you at orientation if we're all accepted! :)

I do wonder how the Dean reported such high NCLEX pass rates when the Texas BON website reports lower percentages. I wonder what other details factor into what the BON posts? I was going to ask why there was a discrepancy in what she told us vs. that website...but then I thought it would be an awkward question. :/

I don't know but I see what you mean. I was looking at the website though and for 2012 they evaluated during the periods of "Final Report for 2012 (October 1, 2011 - September 30, 2012)"

So I'm assuming for the 2013 it would say "Final Report for 2013 October 1, 2012-September 30,2013"

So I guess it depends on the time span of the report?

Haha, @apriljacklynn, I was looking for you and your pink pencil skirt all day!! I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you! But someone did point you out to me during the Q&A at the end and said that you were the one asking about the CCNE Accreditation :) I think you really impressed the Dean with that one!!

Maybe the difference in the NCLEX pass rates comes from WHEN the students take the exam? I remember someone saying that the BON only looks at scores for that year from January - December, and I would guess that UHV looks at the scores from every graduate from that cohort, even if they take the NCLEX in January or February of the following year. Just my thoughts though :)

@apriljacklynn I was looking for the pencil skirt too! I was in group F, and I was the one who asked questions about Windows 8 and latex - nothing near as impressive as CCNE Accreditation! I am excited to hear about whether we all get in - although I am nervous about the amount of work....I know we have all heard it before, but today it kind of smacked me upside the head... :-/

I know what you mean! Yikes! A current student said it's about 600 pages of reading that we'll do per week and that we must find ways to read the "important things"...makes me antsy...ants in my pants...well everyone has different learning styles. It's all about our way of thinking though. Believe that you can do it! Positive thinking goes a long way ;)

I have confidence in what the dean said about the pass rate - it just hasn't been updated on the BON website.
