UH Manoa GEPN Cohort 2019

Published

Aloha!

The application cycle opened a few days ago and was wondering if anyone else is applying to the University of Hawaii's Graduate Entry Program in Nursing (GEPN) for fall 2019?

For any current students in the program, how is the first year of the program? Do you find it difficult to maintain a work/life balance?

I'm excited to finally be applying for the DNP-FNP program!

Good luck everyone! :nurse:

@Noplala I think a Facebook cohort group would be a great idea!

Hi everyone! Just thought I would chime in. I received my acceptance letter over the break (Early January) but will be forfeiting my spot. As someone who is close to finishing up their bachelors, I decided to obtain my masters degree in the field that I graduated with my bachelors in. This was no easy decision but felt like I was not 100% ready to take on this program just yet. I figured later on if the timing is right I will be able to re apply another year and if it's meant to be it will happen. I applied for the public health route so good luck to those on the wait list! Also, good luck to everyone else who decided to enroll in the program. Please post to this forum when the program starts, i'm definitely curious to hear all about it/how the pre licensure year went. Take care everyone!! :).

Aloha all! I will also be starting the GEPN-FNP program this Fall. I got my acceptance letter in late October. I'm super excited, of course, but also a little nervous about the GEPN year and the tremendous responsibility that comes with this role.

Really looking forward to meeting everyone in this cohort! Let me know if there is a meet-up/facebook group/etc.

P.S. - For those of you who are on the waitlist--I am sure it's such a difficult spot to be in. Don't give up hope and be proud of yourself for all that you've accomplished to get selected for that position! I hope we see you in our cohort or a future one. And for those who didn't get in this application cycle, please don't be discouraged. You'll get 'em next time!

Aloha to anyone,

Is there anyone of you who got accepted on the program and yet got a C on any of the 3 (microbio, AP 141 and 142) and have a high undergrad gpa? I am very sad to learn that I may not be able to get accepted ever because of that factor.

Thank you to anyone who answer my question.

Aloha! I am interested in applying to the GEPN Program this Fall 2019. I have my BA degree in Psychology from UH Manoa and I am currently at KCC taking the prerequisites for the program. I have already talked to Chris Stutes about the program and plan on going to the first info session this March. I don't have much background in nursing, but I am applying to volunteer and gain adequate experience. One thing that worries me is my gpa, it isn't very high and I feel that will affect my chances. Chris encouraged me to apply this fall and told him to give him a call back this coming April to get the application started. My questions are given my background and credentials, what can I do to improve my chances to get acceptance in the program? Also, if I do not, what is a good plan B so that when I apply again I have a more improved chance? Thank you and hope to hear a lot of feedback!

Is there a facebook page??? I have also been accepted. And also does anybody know what winter time off is going to look like?

I don't have a facebook, so if the incoming GEPN cohort could use a different platform to communicate, that would be great!

No idea about winter break, sorry.

I checked with the program and was told that the GEPN academic calendar generally follows the UH system calendar - so we can reasonably expect to plan against the dates published by the registrar:

Haven't seen a fb page yet for Cohort 12... we should create one though, or maybe a WhatsApp group at least (esp for non-fb people) so everyone can communicate ahead of orientation. ?

WhatsApp group works for me ?

If any incoming GEPN students are looking for shared housing, maybe we could look together. Send me a private message and we can chat about lifestyle, price range, etc. and see if we might be compatible housemates.

Hi everyone! I just created a login so I could comment on this thread. I was accepted to the 2019 cohort for the MSN track. I just got emails today about orientation and I’m really excited to meet everyone.

I couldn’t find a Facebook page yet. Has anyone created one yet? I’d be more than happy to if not! I could create a group in What’s App too. Can’t wait to meet everyone!

I tried to establish one but you have to add at least one member to create the group. I tried to message you guys within this site to get your info privately and try to add you but it won't let me send direct messages... I'll try again tonight. Maybe I'll just add my spouse or something temporarily to create the group and make it discoverable... then you guys can find it.
