I've always had episodes of insomnia, but this one is killing me. I get home from school and I am utterly exhausted, I can barely keep my eyes open. By the time I finish my homework and studying it is usually around 10 pm. I lie down and nothing happens, nothing. I just lie there for hours trying to fall asleep. For the last three weeks I have not been able to fall asleep before 3 am, and I have to get up by 7 am at the latest.
One night I couldn't sleep at all. I laid in bed all night, 6 am rolled around before I even started to feel sleepy. I decided to skip my morning class (economics) and the next day the teacher had a fit about it. The thing is, I live 35 miles from the college and after staying awake all night I just couldn't bring myself to drive 70 miles roundtrip on no sleep.
Usually I take a couple of benedryl and it at least helps some, but the last couple of weeks it hasn't helped at all. I'm in biology now and it is hard to keep my concentration up for two hours lecture followed by two hours of lab when I haven't slept more than four hours in the last three weeks. I hope I don't blow my GPA. :dzed:

Been there/am there, done/doing that... Just as often as having trouble falling asleep are the nights where I go down at 2300 and then awaken at 0100 and remain so for the rest of the night. Ugh.
At the risk of sounding like a pharm commercial, please talk to your doctor. I find that Lunesta works really well for me. I only take it when I HAVE to get a decent night's sleep. Just the fact that I've taken it helps me to relax and fall asleep.
Get some help. Insomnia is not normal and is treatable.
Unfortunately melatonin does not work so well for everyone believe me I know, I wish it did , as I have taken it nearly every night since I finished off of my Ambien CR RX last week. I keep hoping it will work but I cant seem to tell a big difference between the melatonin and nothing at all.

Have you tried 3mg of it? It won't do anything if the dose is lower than 2mg.
I know what it is like, I used lay awake hour after hour just trying to get comfortable. Clothes on, clothes off, none, one, two, or three pillows, left side, right side, back, or front. Nothing seemed to work. I have tried no caffine and many OTC sleep aids. The only thing that I have found that helps is to concentrate on my breathing and the inhale and exhale of my breath. I do a 5 seconds inhale and a 10 second exhale. I know it sounds funny, but it really helps me to unwind and before I know it I am alseep. I do this too if I wake up during the night and have trouble getting back to sleep. It really works for me. :zzzzz
Yeah thanks StriverSN but the melatonin I have actually comes in that specific dosage, so I am not taking too little unless 3 mg is simply not enough for me , I have no idea. I wish that was all I was doing wrong , if so,I would just take 2 a night and get some sleep!
I dont know what I will do I have come to absolutely dread bed time since I know pretty certainly it only brings tossing and turning for countless hours and more frustration. I have tried relaxing music( nature sounds white noise and stuff like that) counting backwards ( and forwards for that matter)progressively talking (in my mind) through my body relaxing starting at the toes and then working up ..etc, etc, etc .I have tried it all or very nearly anyway~

Idk what to tell you but simply go get it checked out with you're doctor. It could be something else causing your insomnia. I would go before school starts that way it's one less thing you have to worry about.

sounds like you need to make a visit to your PCP.... rather than self-medicating with Benadryl, you could be prescribed something else or another form of treatment. Hang in there! Sounds awful, though. I'm a monster :scrm: without sleep!
I'm new to the whole insomnia thing. I started taking Chantix 3 weeks ago (and yes, it works great). I'm not smoking, and I'm not sleeping either. On the plus side, I've made it most of the way through my dosage calculation book. That's one thing I won't have to worry about when I start school in August....I've got the dimensional analysis down! I've also leveled an elemental to 20 in Guild Wars .... playing mostly with people from Europe at 2-3 am. I just can't lay in bed and not sleep. If I'm not dozing within 30-45 min. I have to get up and find something productive to do (yeah, like Guild Wars is productive :roll) . At least the time goes by faster that way.M
is that WOW you're referring to? My boys are hooked on that.... so is my sister and her brood - for the past 3 years. I don't get it, but everyone seems to love it. It makes my husband wake up before work to play.... and he stays up late playing it, which has a lot to do with not getting enough sleep....

I guess it works differently on everyone i've been on it for about a year and haven't had any problems. of course I have to take the higher dose for it to work.
