UFV January 2020 Intake

Published

I will be applying into the Bachelors of Science in Nursing program at UFV for January 2020 Intake.
Currently have A-English B-Bio B-Chem and a B-Math of which math I will be upgrading this summer to an A, hopefully.

I am also a RCA and have a lot of volunteer experience as well in the health care field

Would this be a strong enough application? Also, if anyone has experienced the information session or interview please do mention how it works and if there's any way to prepare or sort of get a better idea on what they're expecting.

If u Dont mind what universities were u rejected from

No not at all! OC, UBC, VIU, CNC (both locations lol) and Coast Mountain College.

Thank you!

I had all A’s but pretty low A’s. 2 at 86% so just cutting it as an A lol. I have quite a few hours as a residential care aide so I think that helped me out getting an info session invite and then my essay and Interview I felt good about and I think that’s what got me the spot.

I saw you said you were a care aide so that’s really good for the work experience part! I also had 86% in English, when you reapply just send in a copy of your transcript that isn’t electronically sent because it will blend with you provincial, that happened to me and I had to get my old school to send one by mail.

As for your other courses, I found foundations 12 way easier than pre-cal 11, I took it when I wasn’t sure I’d get in this intake and it’s much much easier ?

I hope that was helpful (sorry it’s so long lol) and good luck!! Grades aren’t everything if you do well with the essay and interview you have a really good shot at getting in. Just don’t give up, I got rejected by 6 schools for September, it’ll happen for you ?

Thank you so much this was very helpful!

I was wondering did you take Foundations Math 11 before taking Foundations 12?

Only thing is that most of these schools such as UFV and CNC only take grade 11 math...

I had both grade 11 and 12 math but I had a higher grade in grade 12 math so UFV took that grade for my nursing application. You just have to call and make sure ?

@nay018 And CNC requires a fifth course (grade 12 only) so you can use math 12 for that?

Hi guys,

Congrats to everyone who got accepted for the Jan 2020 intake! I'm planning on applying for the Sept 2020 intake and will probably wait until all of my pre reqs are done before I attempt to create a separate post for my intake (unless someone beats me to it, lol). I'm going through the application requirements and am just wondering if there's a limit to the number of references I can send in? Would I have any more of an edge if I sent multiple references from the same work/volunteer place (just different staff members, etc)? Also, I'm retaking the high school pre reqs and am hoping to finish right before the deadline... is it ok if I send in my application, references, first aid/cpr, etc now and then wait until January to send in my high school grades? Any pointers are appreciated. Thanks guys!

I would send a max of two from the same place. Get one from someone higher up (that you know will give you a good reference) and one from a co-worker/volunteer ? As for your pre-reqs, I sent mine a day before the deadline? Just has to all be in before the deadline doesn’t matter when! Good luck!!

Thank you so much for answering! I was looking through the previous posts and saw that you got accepted for the January 2020 intake! Congrats, you must be so excited ? I'm retaking my high school pre-reqs and am really stressed about finishing them by the January deadline, but I will make it happen lol. I'm a bit confused about UFV's grading scale though.. Is admission to the BSN program calculated using this scale?
A+ 90-100

A 85-89

A- 80-84

and so on? Does this mean that it doesn't really matter whether I get a 90% in a course or a 100%, as both percentages will be seen by UFV as an A+? If anyone could explain the grading scale in relation to high school percentages, that would be so helpful!!!

Thank you! Yes I’m stoked? it is stressful to get everything in on time for sure but you can do it!!! And yes admission is calculated by the UFV grading scale. I can’t find the link because I’m on my phone atm but, If you google “UFV grading scale excel” there will be a link that brings you to a gpa calculator on excel and it tells you how to calculate your gpa on their 4.33 scale. But yes a 90 and 100 are both seen as an A+ it explains it a bit better on the excel calculator on the second page ? it’s really helpful so let me know if you can’t find it and I will try and link it!

Thanks for the encouragement! ? And I think I found the excel sheet you're talking about... if I understand correctly, UFV's grading scale actually puts us at an advantage (right?) since an 80% is still considered an A whereas at most other places it would be some kind of B. That sure makes me happy lol. I'm aiming for at least 90s in all of my courses so they can count as A+'s, although I'm curious if UFV would favour someone with a 98% over someone with a 90% or if once the marks are inputted, they're all just seen as the same letter grade, regardless of percentage? Regardless, I'm going to try my best to do as well as I can in my courses lol. Do you mind sharing what your grades were? Also, did you submit the high school pre-reqs or the post-secondary ones? I've been volunteering at a seniors home for 6 years (since grade 11 and probably over 1000 hours ?) and was hired by the very same senior home to work in a recreation aide position as of 3 months ago. I have 1.5 years of experience working as a rec aide at another facility too and spent about a year volunteering with an OT at a high intensity rehab facility. Do you think my experience is good enough/on the competitive side?

I'm sorry to bombard this post with all of my questions, but there doesn't seem to be any forums for the September 2020 intake as of yet and I've been having lots of anxiety/stress since the past little while about getting admitted. Any help/input/advice is appreciated! I am super happy for all of you that got accepted, great job guys! ?
