Has anyone applied for UCSF's MSN program for fall of 2015?

Interviews for WHNP/CNM are happening next week! It looks like I'll be interviewing on Wednesday the 4th. My application page still says "complete". I was notified by email. SO, SO, SO nervous and excited!!

Interviews? I was told by someone in the admissions office there was no interviews for the MSN program but maybe that was just for the PMHNP specialty? During the information session I was told the same thing too. Have any other specialties had interviews set up?

Either way, congratulations! Let us know how it goes :)

Congrats, binSD !!!!!!! :D !!!!!!

Good luck!

I recall that at the Jan info session they said only MEPN program did interviews.... I wonder what changed? Anyone know is interviewing for all specialties or only for WH?

I've applied for the first time to the FNP program for this Fall 2015. Eager to hear back from the admission committee! Good luck everyone!

Hmm I wonder if other specialties are conducting interviews. Good luck everyone!

I got an email today that an update was made to the status. I didn't get in. :( Good luck to the rest of all of you.

I'm sorry, jen! Did you apply to other programs?

No, I actually applied only to UCSF and it was completely on a whim. I thought my references were all excellent and very passionate about my preparations. I emailed to ask what my application can improve on, but I suspect it was my lack of community/volunteer work.

I applied to the FNP program, haven't heard anything back yet. I completed UCSF's Health Policy MS program in 2012, so I had to apply as a "post-masters" student. Anyone else in a similar situation with any inside knowledge? Good luck to you all still waiting to hear!

I hope the "statistics in the last 5 years" requirement wasn't why I didn't get in. I took 3 different levels of statistics in undergraduate and got A's in all of them! They were all completed in the last 6-8 years.

I'm so sorry to hear you didn't get in. :( I doubt it would be your stats class because I think they said at the info session if it wasn't taken in the last five years you could easily just take it again before the start of the program in the Fall. One thing they did emphasize as being a strong characteristic in an application was experience with underserved populations and a desire to want to continue to work with that demographic in the future so I think they really look for that to be expressed in the application.

It's so competitive because it's such an amazing program which is nerve wracking because I feel everyone who applies is qualified and it's just a matter of whether or not they see some special quality in your application that matches their goals as well. Best of luck in the future :) Keep us updated with any insight you may get about why you weren't admitted! I'm getting so nervous now that more people are hearing back 😣

I got word back today from the admissions staff re: admissions decision not to accept me. Here are some key points, sharing in the interest of helping other applicants in the future:

Pros:

o Good GPA (3.89)

o Years of experience (6)

o Some leadership activities (shared governance representative x4 yrs, preceptor)

o Good letters of reference

Cons:

o Need more leadership opportunities (i.e., charge nurse)

o Lack of membership/participation in professional nursing organizations

o "On the job creative activities" (what do you think this means?)

They also said that fully 1/3 of applicants were re-applying after previous years.
