For anyone who is interested in nterview preparation, feel free to private message me. My last assignment for the quarter is due on Wednesday, and I'd be more than happy to meet with anyone who is in the Bay Area!

Hi all!

I got an interview for FNP 01/19/18!

I'm really excited but nervous after reading last years thread of how many people that interviewed didnt get in!!

Looking forward to hearing how everyone is prepping for interviews

Congratulations! I'm interviewing the same day so look forward to seeing you there.

Good luck with your interview @TangoDeux! This is your chance to shine! Just be yourself, get plenty of sleep the night before the interview, and know by heart why you want to be in your specialty. And if you fail to get admitted, don't give up and reapply. Your chances improve when you reapply, especially if you improve your application (additional experiences, etc.). You have to show them that you are determined to get into the program. I'm rooting for you!

Thanks @rawallace! Which specialty did you end up going for at SFSU?

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on who to contact regarding decisions? I heard decisions came out in the beginning of December, although I haven't heard any news yet. Is there a way to see our status on our application portal, or should I contact Steve Johnson from the admission site?

Hi @ cldimala, welcome to the thread. Yes, contact SJ but to clarify we only found out whether we are invited to interview in early December not whether or not we have been admitted. We don't find out whether or not we are admitted until February 2018 after we have had our interviews the last two weeks of January.

Was your application listed as Completed on the application portal and did you receive a confirmation e-mail? That being said, you should either have gotten a letter letting you know whether you were invited to interview for the specialty that you applied for. Some people also received their decision via e-mail. Make sure you have your current address on file and make sure to add UCSF as one of your trusted senders otherwise e-mails might end up in your spam folder.

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I will be interviewing for FNP. Does anyone know what the interview format is like? My letter says 45 minutes with 2 faculty members. Do people who have previously interviewed have any tips? Did they ask any tricky questions, or was it more of a casual conversation? What is the appropriate attire - suits?

According to my friends currently in the MEPN and those who have recently completed the MEPN year, you should be interviewed by a faculty member in your specialty and a community nurse. Interviews usually begin at 9am and you are assigned an interview slot on the day (first, second or third slot). If you get the third slot, you'll obviously be hanging around more as you're waiting for other people to interview and finish up before you. My friends didn't mention any type of "tricky" questions, but did mention it being a casual conversation. Tips that were given to me were:

1) Be yourself

2) Get plenty of sleep the night before

3) Be prepared to know why you've chosen your specialty and why UCSF in particular.

4) In terms of dress, just make sure you are comfortable.

I was also told that the hardest part is actually getting an interview invitation so congratulations to you and best of luck! Which day are you interviewing?

How is everyone prepping for the interviews?

I started off by looking at the previous threads and looking at the types of questions the interviewers asked and went from there.

What about you? On which date are you interviewing and for which specialty?

I am going to take a couple of questions to focus on and just sit and reflect on the list of questions I've found online. I'm mostly scared of getting so nervous I ramble...

I am interviewing for FPN and 1/26.

Hi, Everyone.

I'm a second-year AGPCNP student who was a MEPN in 2016. I just wanted to add my congratulations to those who have been invited to interview and to tell those who weren't not to be discouraged. Some of my classmates applied twice before being accepted. Others I know who applied went to schools that were equally outstanding. I'm starting a new quarter next week, so I won't be able to reply to individual questions, but I just wanted to reiterate what was posted above about the interview. The most important thing is to be yourself. Don't try to anticipate answers you think the interviewers want to hear. To prepare for my interview, I sat down and wrote a bunch of questions that I thought they might ask me and tried to come up with some answers. Some of the questions I came up with were actually on the interview, including the most obvious ones: "Why do you want to be a nurse/nurse-practitioner?" and "Why do you want to specialize in FNP, AGPCNP, peds, midwifery, etc.?" They will probably ask questions that you haven't thought about before. The most important thing is to remain calm, take a second or two to formulate an answer, and actually answer the question. Many people ramble when they are nervous, which is totally understandable, but it is important to answer the interviewers' questions as directly as possible. The people who will be interviewing you are warm, thoughtful, and intelligent people who are looking to have a conversation with you about why you want to be a nurse practitioner. Have some understanding about what nurse practitioners do before you go into the interview. Otherwise, try to relax and treat the interview as an opportunity to get to know something about the program. I would also have a few questions prepared about the program itself. Remember, this isn't just about UCSF interviewing you; it's about you interviewing UCSF. I wish everyone the best of luck. Warmly, Marmite.
