2012 UCSF MEPN Applicants

Published

The MEPN deadline is less than 2 months away, so I thought I'd get a thread started for us 2012 hopefuls!

I'm a first time applicant to the WHNP/CNM specialty, and feel like I've been getting ready to submit this application for so long! I've been working abroad for a public health NGO for the past couple of years and am a trained birth doula. I've finished up all of my prereqs and GREs, selected people for recommendations (including a slightly awkward visit to my undergraduate advisor...), so now I'm just drafting my essays. Does anyone even know what the application is supposed to look like this year? I'm just going off samples I've seen from previous years.

Some days I feel sort of confident about my chances, and other days I feel as though this is a total shot in the dark and definitely not going to work out!

Any other hopefuls out there? And anyone know when the application is actually going to open?

... this thread is awfully quiet. Just thought I'd wish everyone great luck tomorrow! Try to just relax and get plenty of sleep tonight. We're all going to do awesome :D.

I am beyond nervous and probably will not be able to sleep much tonight. Too bad I'm in the morning session. Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

Haha, must be the nerves! I want to wish everyone luck as well - I'm really looking foward to meeting some of you at UCSF tomorrow.

I'm in the morning session too - see you guys bright and early!

Specializes in FNP.

I thinks it's quiet due to the akward moment of somone typing in caps....anyway, best wishes to you all as well tomorrow. If anyone wants to say hello at our function, I'll be the tall blonde guy with the checkered tie! Sleep well!

Yes. WIshing everyone the best of luck in the interview. I walked around the campus today and I was pretty amazing how large the campus is in such a small space. Hope to meet some of you there :) if not - maybe the meet and greet?

Wow, I'm glad someone broke the ice after the awkwardness....

magallanes-- checkered tie, nice.

I'm open to saying hi too! average height, long blonde hair, wearing mostly black (dun dun dun), in the afternoon session. I'm no longer certain if I will be able to attend the meet and greet (it is likely that I will be meeting and greeting a new baby since I am on-call for a birth)-- if I do make it I will be some version of a happy zombie roaming the ucsf campus with the rest of you :)

Good luck everyone!!!

I haven't been on here for awhile but good luck and I look forward to meeting some of you tomorrow and Saturday! I'm in the afternoon session so if anyone wants to say hi I will be the short girl in mostly black with short black hair. Hopefully it warms up tomorrow :/

Flew in today and feeling a bit run down...I'm crossing my fingers I'm not getting sick just in time for my interview! Hopefully, a good night's sleep will take care of things.

Hope to meet some of you tomorrow or at the info session on Sat. Good luck to all of you!

Hi Everyone,

Hope your interviews went well! I was wondering if anyone attended the Saturday session? I wasn't able because of family obligations-- if anyone has any info, I'd surely appreciate it!

I attended on Saturday - I thought that the most useful part was the small group session with some current MEPNs, but it really wasn't critical to attend. It was just good to get a feel for what the students are like.Is there anything specific you'd like to know? A few key things were:- they'll be accepting 60 people out of the 125 interviewed- notifications go out by email all at once. They said to expect your decision by mid- to late-march, but apparently the reality is more like early- to mid-march every year- you may be an "alternate" (wait listed). Sometimes they've taken all of the alternates for a particular specialty, and sometimes none- it just depends how many people turn down their spots- alternates may be notified if their acceptance literally up until the day school begins- if you have a car, bring it. If you don't, you're not going to have to buy one- people were all kinds of concerned about housing. Personally, I would say don't worry so much about this - there's on campus housing, there's Craigslist, etc.

Ugh, sorry for the formatting. Smart phone strikes again.

Thanks LookingAhead! I was mostly wondering if they mentioned anything else about financial aid, etc. Thanks for the other updates-- it's really too bad they take forever to notify! Much later than other programs!
