Hi,
Is there anyone lurking who is planning to apply to the 2011 program?
I have spent the last 12 years in financial marketing/communications and am excited to try and change paths into nursing. I am currently taking my prerequisite courses at city college- stats and anatomy/physiology- and going in for the GRE Saturday. I'm volunteering at a children's hospital, which is causing me to consider the pediatric nurse practitioner track... I know UCSF is very competitive and it's a long-shot for someone like me to get in, but I feel like I have to try! If it doesn't happen next year, then I'll just keep building my volunteer experience and re-apply. Also on my mind is that if for some miracle I were to get in how I would pay for it.
But enough about me... what are some other candidates' takes on preperation, interests, anxieties, etc?
East Coast letters have arrived (at least in the NYC area), and sadly it was a rejection letter for me. While I'm disappointed, I'm not too surprised given the caliber of many of the applicants and I'll definitely use this year to boost my application some more. Congratulations again to everyone who was invited to interview! I'd love to hear how it goes!
Just found out that I did not get an interview. I'm not disappointed though because I wasn't expecting one. I know I am qualified, experienced, and genuinely passionate, but so are the other 90+ people who applied to the midwifery track. FYI they are taking 8 people this year for the CNM/WHNP track. I will be a cnm one day, just not by 2014, but what's another year or two anyway? For me, that means another year home with my baby and attending birth and postpartum clients so the way I see it is that I get to stay home with my baby longer and get even more experience in the birth world. Good luck to those who got interviews, and to those who didn't, we will likely be classmates in years to come :)
I am still shaking :heartbeat - just opened my deceptively thin UCSF letter to find I have been selected for an interview for the Psych/Mental Health NP track on 1/28. After following this thread and noting the stellar qualifications of everyone I was honestly not sure what to expect. Everyone on here is so encouraging and warm, and I know we will all find our path with both perseverance and patience =).
Is anyone else interviewing for the Psych/Mental Health track? Would be great to "study" for the interview together. My boss actually gave a talk in SF last month and gave me the contact info of a woman he met there who recently graduated from the Psych/Mental Health program and offered to chat with me about the interview process, etc. Even if you are not interviewing for this track, would still love to chat about the school, interview, etc.
Hello Calinursetobe,
Thank you very much for sharing with us your experience during the interview day last year! It is very helpful.
I wonder if you remember any questions that either surprised you because you were not expecting them, or that were difficult to answer.
I believe that someone on this thread mentioned that language skills are checked/tested during the interview. Does it mean that part of the interview is conducted in the language one listed on the application?
Again, thank you very much for sharing this information with us!
Does anyone know how many MEPN students UCSF will accept for 2011? Also does anyone know how many are accepted for each specialty or is it a variable amount? And finally, how many applicants did UCSF receive for the MEPN program this year?
Best of luck to everyone who is interviewing in January!
Rejected...or DENIED as UCSF like to state it. I can handle the let down, but the lack of feedback with the letter of denial was the real downer. It seemed to say "You failed and we're not going to tell you why." Anyone here know if we can call them to ask on what we can do to strengthen our application for next year? My letter of denial stated there are ("were" in my case and many others) 84 seats this year, and who knows how that is broken up between all the specialties each year. Approximately 600 people applied for these positions!
Best wishes for all who received an interview and, to the rest of us who got denied, best wishes for next year and with other schools!!
