Hi,
Is there anyone lurking who is planning to apply to the 2011 program?
I have spent the last 12 years in financial marketing/communications and am excited to try and change paths into nursing. I am currently taking my prerequisite courses at city college- stats and anatomy/physiology- and going in for the GRE Saturday. I'm volunteering at a children's hospital, which is causing me to consider the pediatric nurse practitioner track... I know UCSF is very competitive and it's a long-shot for someone like me to get in, but I feel like I have to try! If it doesn't happen next year, then I'll just keep building my volunteer experience and re-apply. Also on my mind is that if for some miracle I were to get in how I would pay for it.
But enough about me... what are some other candidates' takes on preperation, interests, anxieties, etc?
hey guys!
i finally heard back from UCSF about recommenders not getting emails. it turns out that UCSF's email account that generates LOR invites may be compromised and will be fixed by Monday (hopefully). in the mean time, your recommenders can email [email protected] for the link to submit the LOR online. phew!
hope this helps! :)

I guess I kind of misspoke...there is no status bar but the area under your education info it gives the option to delete or edit...to the left of these options mine says Status:Received. I also noticed it on the prereqs page and the residency page. I submitted some transcripts really early so I'm guessing when the application period opened admin folks had extra time to mess around with that stuff. Now that we're closer to Sept.1 I'm sure they're overwhelmed. My other transcript hasn't been received yet but I'm guessing they have it.
The website does mention that if transcripts etc aren't received by Sept. 1 they allow a grace period to get those docs in to them. I'm sure we're all fine.
Dorshee and Meeeshelllie: Thanks for the info about who to contact regarding LORs!
Hi Everyone!
Hope the app process and the goal statement writing is going well.
Just wanted to chime in and let you know that when I spoke to the Prof at UCSF she said that keeping it to 2 pages was really important and also keeping it at a 12 pt. font so they can read it. I feel like this is impossible, but its forced me to cut out "unnecessary" sentences. I have a couple of people looking at it and crossing out stuff they think I already said and/or don't help me. It's been a tough process, but it sounded to me like they are serious about this. I wish they hadn't used the word "approximately" because it gives the impression that a little more than 2 pages is o.k. which is not what I heard from the Professor. On the other hand, it is just one Professor I talked to so maybe others reading it wouldn't mind a little over 2 pages.
Good luck!
Hi ju-loy,
The Professor I talked to was in Peds. Her comments were in the context of making your statement standout when the admissions committee is reading literally hundreds of applications. They want to hear your story, but not your life story. They like to see that you are able to develop ideas but get to the point quickly and demonstrate that you know what you are talking about.
Good luck!! It sounds like you are ahead of the game with the tendency to be short and concise. I have the opposite problem---as you can see in my posts!!!
Hey Guys..
I have to say that I agree on the essay only being 2 pages. Again mine is 2.5 but I am doing my best to cut it down. Good luck with all of your essays! It has been terribly hard for me to figure out how to approach both essays. By the way...how long should the one about diversity be?

I also do not see a status bar. I am also wondering if my transcripts have been received (and attached to my application), as they are under my maiden name.
I have information for those needing to change recommender information. Send the change requests to [email protected], and he should make the changes and email you a confirmation saying it's done.
Also, the original Nursing Affairs phone number has people answering now.
