UCSD New Grad Residency November 2023

Published

Hello! I know it's a little early, but I just wanted to start a thread for UCSD's New Grad Nurse Residency program that's set to start in November 2023. It looks like there is going to be a webinar on June 7th, and applications will start on (or after) June 16th.

does anyone know if the units chosen for your application are looked at equally or they prioritize your first selection first?

If HR sends your application through, I believe each floor you put looks at your application. It's kind of based on your preference but ultimately it's really down to if that floor picks you too if that makes sense

What units did you all apply to? ?

I put L&D as my first choice, Med-surg as second and oncology as my third

That's a good mix! Did you work in those areas before? I applied to SICU, OR, and ED

I just graduated but I did my preceptorship in the postpartum unit near my school. I am hoping I will be a competitive applicant for L&D but I know it is really competitive.

I applied to SICU, ED, and EDIP. im wondering if this application cohort is as big as the last one

Really hope not! There's a lot less positions this time. Fingers crossed!!

I noticed that too ? I really hope that I can at least get an interview this time around, this is my second time applying

I did my preceptorship in the ER so I applied to ED, IMU/PCU and Med-surg. There's only 18 openings so my hopes aren't super high but I have my ACLS, PALS, and tncc. Not sure what else I can do to be competitive? Sharps new grad program application opened this week for fall and there's tons of unit hiring, if any one hasn't applied to that one too.

I wish we could know more about their hiring process and how they decide. I feel like the extra certifications will help a bit! I have ACLS, PALS, and NRP. I did two externships and my preceptorship was on a PCU at NWM. I never worked as a tech/CNA though and I think that's hurting my applications now. Like Thao, this is my second time applying to UCSD. I also applied to Sharp (SICU and MICU) - did you apply there and, if so, what floors? I don't think there's a chat for there yet!

I didn't work in school either and I just have my preceptorship. I applied to the ED and cardiac tele for sharp.

This is my first time applying to residencies so I'm not sure what to expect or how competitive each hospital is. I know I've heard ucsd is the most competitive. I applied to scripps er, ucsd and sharp. Hopefully I can get one. Wishing everyone luck as well.
