Is anyone applying to the Fall 2012 program ? I have a few questions and I think it would be good to share our concerns regarding the application process here.
I am a preschool teacher and I am applying for 2012. Have very little healthcare volunteer experience and wondering if that really maters. I have some experience looking after a family member who had a stomach surgery and chemo.
I'm also a current MECN with Lisa. I just happen to hang around water cooler when stuff is being said.
Don't worry butters111, it'll come soon enough. The one thing that I learned is that everything is going to be ok at the end. :)
Good luck!
Now back to my pathophys studying... + :sleep:That is how I feel right now. Lol.
Holy moley lisapett42, you just made my day, my week and my year! I had just emailed Mark about a week ago , and at that time he still said that it was only 60 people that would get into the program this year; upping the number must be a fairly recent decision. Thank goodness for that, YAY! And any further tidbits you get, please feel free to share
P.S. Is it the coffee or the excitement that's making my hands tremble? Who knows, who cares!!!
Hi Sai A, I was wondering, when did you make this comment? It says it was Feb 28th at 5:29pm; however, seeing as it's now 12:07 pm on the 28th, I feel like this might be an error haha.
I am obviously trying to glean as much information as I can about when the letter might go out, and can't wait to get a decent night of sleep, regardless what the result is. I live in Westwood, so do you think I might get my letter as soon as this week? Not that you could REALLY know this, but I'm just curious if you have an opinion on it.
Also, on my application I talk a lot about my involvement with Planned Parenthood and part of me worries that someone in the admissions committee will take offense to that (given that many people don't approve of their role in providing abortions). Do you think they would appreciate it mainly for the benefit of giving me clinical experience, or do you think some might see that experience as a mark against me if they don't believe in the Planned Parenthood mission statement?
That's rather a specific ideological question, but if you had any insight I'd be happy to hear it! And also any insight from any current MECN student. Thanks!
I have been looking at this thread for a few days now and I finally decided to comment! I applied to the MECN program and I'm hoping and praying that I get into this cohort!!!!! I'm so nervous and can not wait until we find out if we are accepted. The waiting is agonizing! Thanks Lisa for the info about 90 MECN's being accepted! Is anyone else out there just want to know already????
@Blessed63 - yep, like everyone else I'm anxious to know, and the news about letters being sent out this week didn't help any! I mean, it was very helpful, but when I came home from work today I felt ill while looking through the mail. Luckily it's super busy at work, AND I'm planning a May wedding, so I have a few other things to fixate on :) If I didn't have those two things, my fiance would not be a very happy man right now! Alcohol works wonders, too!!!! Hehe.
@anewnurse79 I check the thread everyday to see what new news is posted since I am too afraid to call and bother anyone at UCLA. But i saw the post about finding out this week and was super nervous approaching my mailbox, in my head I was like "please be a huge envelope from UCLA" (I read in last years post that a small envelope is for rejection and a large envelope is acceptance) wonder if that's true! I'm doing a Child Life Internship in the hospital right now and it makes me want to be a nurse more and more each day. I hope we get in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hearing that 90 people get in is uplifting though.
I wouldn't think that you should worry about your past experiences and whether they would necessarily be offended....
They look at all the applications THOROUGHLY... Like they spend a good bunch of time on it.. I mean you all sent it in November but it's taken them 3 months to go through all of them. :)
It's more about your experience you had with planned parenthood rather than it's mission statement. Were you able to convey your compassion and commitment to your pts rather than just doing it for the resume listing? It really boils down to your personal statement, your involvement in clinical setting/ people interaction, letters of recommendation, and what you're goals are in life. Here at SON they want to make sure they choose applicants that are a good fit to the school.
I'm not exactly sure what they are looking for since I'm not on the committee, but good luck! :) Always remember, if one door shuts, there's another door that opens for a better opportunity! Everything happens for a reason. :)
