UCLA MECN Fall 2020

Updated:   Published

Hello All!

I'm applying to UCLA's MECN program this year for Fall 2020. Who else is applying? I hope we can all support each other through this process. ?

What are some of the questions you may have about the application process?

wait where did the Nursing Evaluation Criteria prompt go? I have been working on that paper for a week.

For the resume/cv, is anyone including experience that doesn’t include healthcare experience? I’ve had jobs (for example soccer coaching) with a much longer duration than my healthcare related positions...

is the personal statement and statement of purpose within 500 words or can it be 1 page but more than 500 words? Mark Covin said either but i'm scared they won't accept my app bc it's over 500 words but still within 1 page.

I think the 500 words keep the essays a manageable length. Remember, the admissions committee will be reading about four to six hundred of the essays. Without the limit, you know people will be submitted essays over three pages.

You can definitely go over since you're uploading a document. Some programs have it submitted online and will have character limits. I would make sure it is a strong essay; be concise and persuasive. Have a few people read it, and someone whose opinion you really trust in such matters.

End of the day, you cannot control what UCLA is going to do. You can only control what you do. Be confident in your submission, and will a little luck, you will get the acceptance offer.

I did. I've only got limited health experience as an on-call CNA, which I've only been doing since April. My resume includes my work experience over the last twenty years or so; I don't change jobs often. I included some items such as viewing an autopsy at the county coroner and being a human dissector at school. Remember, this program is designed for people coming with degrees other than nursing. I imagine quite a few are going to have limit health field experience.

I got into another school for spring but I’m still waiting to hear back from Ucla. Does anyone know when we should hear back?

They review all applications in January and email all applicants in February.

For the January 15th deadline for the unofficial transcripts, do we email them (and if so, what email do we send it to?) or send them in via mail? What did you guys do?

I sent one of them to Mark. Although the other one I sent to whoever informed me that they wanted my transcripts.

I sent my two transcripts separately, and the first person I sent it to never answered that they got my transcript. But when Mark sent out another notice that UCLA still needed updated transcripts, it was updated for only the one I hadnt sent in yet. I sent in the final one to Mark and he was the only person who responded when I sent mine in.

My advice would be to just email and ask if they got. They seem to be pretty responsive, although UCLA is closed for winter break till Monday so you wont hear till then.

Well no one reached out to me regarding transcripts, however, I uploaded unofficial transcripts.
