UCI/other UC Medical benefits q's

Published

Anyone have any opinions on any of the medical benefits plants offered at UCI medical center? All but the one specifically for Davis/Sacramento seem to be offered at all the UC's, so I was just wondering if anyone has strong feelings for or against the offerings...

Employees have these medical plan options:

  • Blue Shield Health Savings Plan, a PPO with a UC-funded health savings account that also allows you to contribute tax-free
  • Health Net Blue & Gold, an HMO with a network designed just for UC
  • Kaiser, an HMO with a closed network of doctors and hospitals
  • UC Care, a PPO plan created just for UC with access to UC doctors and medical centers as well as the entire Blue Shield PPO network
  • Western Health Advantage, a regional HMO in the Davis-Sacramento area
  • Core, a catastrophic plan

Thanks for any input. I'll take any info, anecdotal, whatever!

I had the WHA and got treated for a uti at my hospital and had a 1400$ charge. I had initially thought it was smarter to get seen so I could keep working after, but it would have been cheaper to go home sick. Make sure the plan you pick doesn't have a out of pocket before coverage starts. You want to know what your paying up front.

That was an expensive lesson.

core is even worse. Pick any of the others.

Ok...definitely not the bottom two. Check! Thank you!
