UCF 2013 Fall-Orlando generic BSN applicants?

Starting a thread for others applying to this program!

I read the handbook for the CON and I think UCF is pretty strict about white white white for the shoes. I thought reading the handbook would probably be a good idea, as it answered most of my questions I would ask in an interview like, daily routine, duration of clinicals, etc. There is an entire section on dress code.

Yes they are. I read that too. It seems like they really want us to look uniform and professional. I thought my private school I went to was crazy because they had a strict dress code also, but I see now that it was to get us use to it.

Yes, I read the handbook also. I just want a good quality shoe. And does anyone know how much the uniforms cost?

The uniforms are a little expensive, like 20 for a shirt then 30 for the pants (you have to wear them to clinicals obviously but also the days that you have lab)...but you all are lucky. We have an all white uniform now, white pants and top, but they're changing the uniform for the incoming class. It's black pants and a white top with gold and stuff (kind of looks like a band uniform). They are a little more though I think becuase they made them microfiber or something. Good luck everyone! And yes, they are very strict about uniform and shoes; completely all white! Definitely no crocs or nike shocks (because of the holes and stuff). They must cover your heal too, so no slip ons.

Interesting. I like idea of the black pants (in case of that time of the month comes early :p)

Oh thank goodness for black pants! I've seen the nursing students around campus in all white. I was thinking I'd have to wear bike shorts or something underneath, just to make sure nothing ever shows. That's so much better. The gold I could live without, but whatever. I'll probably get myself some Danskos as a reward for getting in. The birks are slip ins and would be fine for a job, but not the school. Danskos at least allow for inserts if you need them. Going from sitting on my butt all day to standing/walking all day will be an adjustment.

I'm getting so excited just thinking about all of this. What kind of stethoscope were you going to get? I was thinking either a lightweight littmann or indulge in a cardiology III.

I think if if I'm not mistaken that they will tell you specifically what nursing equipment, (I think that they call it "nurse kit" or something like that) to buy.

I'm getting a Littman Cardiology 3. I am not great at hearing sounds through a regular double-sided Littman. In physio lab I used to have to watch the bp jump on the dial because I couldn't hear it :(. The cardiology one works great for my ears though.

Goknights- did you have any choice in your lab hours or clinicals hours? I have to work out child care with hubby and I'm wondering if clinicals can be done on Fridays/Saturdays when he is home.

No, we had no say in terms of lab hours/days or placements. With that many students, they just make the schedule as it fits...I got lucky the first semester because I ended up having all my classes and labs on Mondays and Wednesdays but nothing on Tuesdays :)
