UCF 2015 FALL BSN traditional program

Published

Hello, I plan on applying to UCF's traditional BSN program in the fall of 2015. Although there is still some time before the application period begins I wanted to start this thread to get the ball rolling for all of us that plan on applying. Also I wanted to see what the application pool is looking like for this cycle in regards to stats. Mine go as this:

Cum. GPA: 3.73

Pre. Req. GPA: 3.84

as for the teas I take it next month

(Wish me luck I've been studying a lot for it, so if u have any tips feel free..lol)

Hope to be hearing back from some of you prospective students with your stats, questions/comments w.e it may be :)

P.s. past students that want to share their experience with the UCF program so far, are also welcome :)

My high school transcripts weren't even good enough for UCF General Admission! Had to get an additional MMR shot because they couldn't confirm when the first was (guess it needed to be after first birthday)... Therefore, I went ahead and had my tetorifice booster and titers drawn and started my hep series back in January :)

So, I emailed the current UCF student who popped on here with some questions. I am copying my questions and her answers for you all! If you have any questions, I will be sending another email tonight and can throw them in there :)

Congrats on your acceptance to the CoN at UCF.

Here are my answers. Keep in mind that this year they have decided to change the curriculum significantly, and there may be classes you will take in your first semester that I didn't take.

What were your initial out of pocket expenses?

I spent around $1,700 including all of the supplies i needed for lab, books, and clinical. (shoes, watch, stethoscope, clipboard, lab materials, text books, etc.) books I got used off of different websites for around $700. you may not spend the same amount because they may have changed it for your incoming class. I had to buy package containing lab materials (syringes, fake meds, needles, bandages) that cost me $180. they may not make your class buy it, or they may. I don't know. I also had to buy the ATI books which was $400. it contained material that prepares you for NCLEX ranging from community nursing to critical care nursing. They may not make your class buy that either. You will indeed pay over $1000 however with the other materials you need to get. I don't know how i was able to buy all of it, but i was.

What is your schedule like to start out?

The first semester is super hectic because you are trying to get used to the nursing program. I had classes Mondays and Wednesdays, lab on Tuesday morning (7-9:30) and clinicals thursdays and fridays. usually class ended around 1-2ish on monday and wednesdays so i had time to work a little part time hours.

When do you actually register for classes and when was your orientation for the CON?

HA! the orientation for the CoN was a frustration in itself. They basically told us to have the entire week before classes are supposed to start and they our 2 day orientation could happen anyone of those days. I hope that is not the case for your class however. But it may happen the week before classes start. When you go to your UCF orientation you will register for a "hold" class which will basically allow you to stay active with UCF while you wait to register for your classes in the fall. CoN (College of Nursing) will let your guys know when to register for classes.

Are you with the same students each semester? Or does it change a lot?

You will stay with your cohort from beginning to end, however your clinical students will change every clinical.

Did you apply to other programs and if so, why did you choose UCF?

I only applied to UCF and got in. I was fortunate that is happened like so because I don't know what else i would have done. I chose UCF because I did not want to wait in the waitlist for the Valencia program. I figured that it would take me the same amount of time to get into valencia's nursing program as it would to just get my AA and enter UCF's program.

Definitely get all of the paperwork done ASAP (MoA, health form, etc.)

Feel free to share this info with the other peeps on the allnurses board.

Feel free to ask more questions too!

Also.... I'm not seeing all the classes for main campus. Tons for regional.

Oh boy. I'm almost entirely relying on financial aid (grants and loans blah blah) to pay for supplies and tuition. I hope I can still cover most of my expenses! Hemorrhaging money, I say! At least I can get shoes and stethoscope without using FA haha yowza.

I am also relying on financial aid but I will be trying to buy books used! I'm relying on my loans, I don't even get grants. Hoping for a transfer scholarship too!

For those that are active and those just viewing/reading.... If you have been offered a seat in the class, join us on Facebook :) https://www.facebook.com/groups/1581806525433987/

April 10th was full. I registered for 5/15 orientation if anyone is able to go the same day!

I'll try to register for May 15 too once I'm able!

I just joined the Facebook group!

The CON also offers a lot of scholarships, but unfortunately we have to wait until we are enrolled in the Fall to actually apply for them.

Ok - I thought I was doing something wrong for the scholarships! I WILL BE APPLYING!

Hey guys I know I haven't been on here forever (I have a new job that's keeping me super busy) but congrats to everyone that got in! I got in as well and I'm super excited :D have u guys received your package that tells us what we have to do before we start? The MOA i think it's called

No MOA on my end but my last name is nearly dead last in the alphabet haha. Congratulations! Did you join our facebook group?
