Hello everyone. I'm new to allnurses.com and I just wanted to say congrats to those who got into the 2012 UCF nursing program this summer.

I am a prenursing student at UCF as I am still working on a few prerequisites before I apply to CON.

Seeing you all on here, all going through the things I'll be going through next spring makes me feel better about this whole process.

Good luck to everyone!!! Strap in! It's going to be one kind of a ride from what I've heard.

Is there anyone out there who is planning on applying to accelerated program (ABSN) that starts in summer 2013? I'm starting this thread in hopes of finding many of you who wouldn't mind going through this somewhat stressful process together! :)

I am very excited and hopeful that I'll be accepted next year. I already have a bachelor's degree in finance and investments so my #1 choice is the accelerated route, however I will also apply to the basic program as a back up option, which will start in the fall of 2013.

Anyone has taken TEAS yet? I took it in spring semester and scored 82. My overall GPA is 3.90 and prerequisite GPA 4.0 so far. I still have 4 prerequisites to complete. Should I retake the TEAS? I heard that scoring 90 or above makes you really competitive.

Thanks for all of your responses.

Best of luck!!!

No I didn't ask any details about the interview. I know they are interviewing for both accelerated and the basic program.. which I am applying to both.

The advisor didn't really say anything except that they were going to have them this year. Even though I think it's a good thing, I agree it adds more stress. I'm one of those people who blanks when I'm put on the spot and asked to answer questions... So I am going to have to practice interviewing before the whole process starts.

I don't like, however, that they will be interviewing 5 people at a time.. 1 on 1 is scary enough.. now put 4 other students in there and try to act yourself without freaking out!!

I am thinking the interviews will be very standard.. It's still an undergraduate program so I imagine that the questions will be basic. Why did you choose nursing? What makes you think you have what it takes? How would you react if you where in a certain situation? ..those kinds of questions. Once applications open I will e-mail the advisor and ask if she has anymore info on the interview.

@lexiucf

Thanks for your reply.

I have a friend who is applying for the spring 2013 basic program at cocoa and is going through the admission process right now. I will ask her questions pertaining to the interview process once she's done going through it. So hopefully we'll know much more before it's time for us to be tortured. Lol

Have a great weekend. :)

Hey everyone, I am currently going through the waiting game for the regional campus programs. I should find out this week. Anyway, if I don't get in I am planning on applying to the ABSN program as I will have my bachelor of science degree in psychology completed this december.

Did anyone notice that per the CON website the application window for the ABSN changed to Jan 1 - Feb 1. (previously Nov 15)?

My GPAs are not that high (cumulative 3.336, pre-reqs range from 3.25 to 3.5 depending on which categories) but my TEAS score is 84.7. I took it in August and am probably going to retake it sometime in December. Good luck to everyone!

Can you share anything helpful about the TEAS? I need to take it for the first time, in December chances are. I recently bought this book for a math refresher (fantastic reviews):

CliffsNotes Math Review for Standardized Tests (CliffsTestPrep): Jerry Bobrow Ph.D.: 9780470500774: Amazon.com: Books

But would love any further tips you could share on what to focus on... especially the science section.

Thanx!

Chemistry! The science section is heavy on basic chemistry. The math mostly basic math. Just long division and multiplication that took time. A few fractions and only two algebra FOIL problems. It isn't terribly hard. Just make sure you brush up on your chemistry. :)

Definitely review chemistry! But the TEAS V Study Manual by ATI is awesome for reviewing everything, and trust me you will want to review EVERYTHING! Also, I believe ATI has online practice software through their website if you pay for it. I will have to look into your link for studying as well, thanks!

Oh crap, Chemistry. That wasn't an exciting class from what I recall. :\

I did just find these though... maybe I'll buy one:

Nearly 200 pages for $10 is not bad:

CliffsNotes Chemistry Quick Review (Cliffsquickreview): Harold D. Nathan,Charles Henrickson: 9780470905432: Amazon.com: Books

360 pages for $12 and change might be better:

Thank you both for your heads up on the Chemistry part. I appreciate it.

@Nursowiczka2b hey girl, we (those applying to the regional campuses) will probably be getting our emails to find out if we even got an interview this weekend/next week!! eeek!!! Then we have to wait until the end of october to do the interview then who knows how long till we find out?!?! I would write you a message about this but i cant send any until I have a certain # of posts. I will keep you informed though, love you girl, good luck to all of you applying!!!!

@laurenmalauren

Thanks for replying girl..I saw your message on Instantgram but I've been so busy with Anatomy it's not even funny. Lol yet I love it!!!

Thanks for an update. I watch your blog too and I know all of you are getting very impatient. Sorry :(

It must be hard.

I wish you the best and I know you're get it!!!

You got this!!

Lemme know how interviews go. I'm really curious how they will handle the process of interviewing people and what questions they'll ask.

Have a great day!!

Hey all, im new to this site. I am gonig to be applying for the 2013 class. For the people who have taken the TEAS already, how long did youstudy for it? Like how many monthsin advance?

Hi! I just joined the site looking for people applying to UCF's ABSN program for 2013. I am nervous about getting in! I have a bachelors degree from FSU with a cumulative GPA of 3.29 :-/ -which includes 1 nursing prerec- PSY2012 (I got a B, which brings down my 4.0 prerec GPA to 3.86)...I have talked to a few different advisors @ UCF as some of advisors were unable to answer all of my ?'s... I was told the science pre-rec's are the most important grades (which I have a 4.0 in them all) and that if I get into the accelerated program I should also get into the regular program. I haven't taken the TEAS yet, but think it will help that I am taking all of my science classes now so it will be fresh in my mind. What do I need to get on my TEAS to off set my over all GPA? I wonder if I can retake PSY2012 to get rid of the one B prerec I have??

I am really glad to hear they are doing interviews! I have working in the medical industry for 7 years managing medical professionals and preforming consultations for surgical procedures, which is why I have decided to go back to school. Has anyone heard that they will accept recommendation letters form professors or old employers?

-Your stats sound nearly identical to mine... I have a cumulative GPA of around 3.4 and prereq GPA of 3.85 I think.

-I haven't done the TEAS yet either, taking it early December, (looking at 12/7) for the first time so I can take it again 30 days later and still meet the deadline. I'd recommend that for you too only because the TEAS format will be fresh in your mind too, versus say, taking it November 1 and then having to wait until January (since UCF only lets you take it once a semester). I don't know solid TEAS numbers for UCF but from a generalist sense I would think 85%+ would be decent.

-Re: TEAS prep I just bought these:

1) CliffsNotes Math Review for Standardized Tests (CliffsTestPrep): Jerry Bobrow Ph.D.: 9780470500774: Amazon.com: Books

2) CliffsNotes Anatomy and Physiology Quick Review (Cliffsnotes Quick Review): Steven Bassett: 9780470878743: Amazon.com: Books

3) CliffsNotes Chemistry Practice Pack: Charles Henrickson: 9780470495957: Amazon.com: Books

4) http://www.amazon.com/McGraw-Hills-5-TEAS-Practice-Tests/dp/0071767770/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1350747514&sr=1-1&keywords=5+teas+practice+test

The math one has fantastic reviews; I have cracked it open but switched to reading the A&P one which I started this week and already I'm on Chapter 5... each chapter is 20 pages max... no fluff, just straight to the point. You can knock out a chapter reading over your lunch break! Plus there are links I think to online practice flash cards/practice questions, etc. The Chem one will come in a couple weeks I guess. 600 practice questions on the included CD according to the Chem cover I think.

-Yes, they have a separate category on your degree audit for Science prereqs alone so at 4.0 you're fine.

-As for your PSY2012 situation... according to this:

UCF COLLEGE OF NURSING : BSN Prerequisites

You can take SYG2000 if you haven't already and use it IN PLACE OF PSY2012. If you got an A then obviously that would turn your 3.86 into a 4.0. If you haven't taken SYG2000 and you are feeling really adventurous, then you should look into an online Intersession class in late December; this link below is just one school that offers them but several do them online if you Google enough.

VCU Intersession

In short an intersession class is a whole course inside of 2 weeks or less. Absolutely crazy in terms of time but if you can bang out a course like that *snaps fingers* then it's pretty cool.

If you have taken SYG2000 also though, I think your 3.86 cannot change since I don't see any other options, though not to worry, 3.86 is still pretty stellar.

My $0.02.
