Anyone applying for UCF's accelerated BSN program beginning in Summer 2012?

Nikki, getting regular student loans should not be a problem as long as you show need and you are not above the limit for undergrad loans (which is something like 50k). But I have heard getting private loans for anything in the medical field is extremely easy if need be since they know you will be in a field that constantly needs workers. I'd like to know about the schedule as well...any graduates or current students here?

I agree that there should be some other section of the application (like the other schools I applied to-UF and USF);

Hi Akinney613, sounds like you have a damn good shot at this. May I ask if you actually took GRE just to apply for UF? That kind of deterred me from applying to UF. I mean, it's not that far from Orlando, if I wanted to apply but GRE for a 2nd degree is a little too much.

I will need to figure out how to pay for this if I am accepted... I heard that you can't get regular student loans if you are working on a second Bachelor's degree, does anyone know if this is true? I hope I don't have to go with all private lenders!

I just wanted to put my 2 cents in here. I am a current ABSN student at UNF graduating in June (I was accepted at UCF as well but chose UNF). Anyway, I have all federal loans no private loans financing my education. The only thing you may have to do is petition for financial aid depending on how many hours you have because they set a limit based on your degree program on what you are supposed to have. Once you reach that cap, they tell you that you cannot get anymore aid. You fill out a form, get it signed, and you should have no problem.

Thanks for the good insight into finanical aid... I know I am worried about how I am going to finance living expenses while I am in school (not necessarily school costs since I have a good size savings.)

Hi Pinkstiring, thanks for the confidence boost. I actually took the GRE b/c I figured it would keep my options open even though UF nursing is the only school I need it for right now. GRE scores last 5 years so if I decide to go on to grad school a couple of years after the nursing program (or next year if I don't get into any nursing programs), I will still be set! I know what you mean about taking the tests for only one school though cause I did the same thing with the TEAS for UCF and it's always mentally annoying to set study time aside for a test that you may never even benefit from. I'm not sure what a competitive score is but I got a 166 math, 154 reading, and 4.0 writing. Good luck to you! Hopefully we will find out soon.

Considering the max you can get in the math and reading sections is 170, I'm pretty sure you did AWESOME. Congrats on those scores :)

Hey everyone! For the people who are currently in the program, or previously were, can you tell me when you had to accept your acceptance by? Like, how long did they give you to make a decision? And Regarding the things you need to do, (I.e. submit immunization/ health forms, CPR certification, Background check, and drug test) when did you have to complete all that by? Was it the start of the program or before? And did you have to use specific companies for the background check/ drug screening/ CPR certification?Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the loan info, that is great to know. I was worried that since it was a second bach degree, that we'd only be eligible for private loans. I read it somewhere, can't remember where now... oh well, glad it was wrong!

Just looked at the calendar and realized that this week it has been 4-5 weeks already since the application deadline, so I guess we could hear something this week or next week already! I am so anxious!

Still hoping that some current/past students can tell us a bit what your schedule was like....?

[color=#333333]monday: health assessment 8-10:50, essentials 1-3:50

[color=#333333]tuesday: community health nursing 7:30-10:20, 2 labs - they go from 12-5:20 (this was a long day..)

[color=#333333]*community health nursing is only for the first 6 weeks, then you don't have class anymore

[color=#333333]wednesday - roles of the pro nurse 8-10:20 (done for the day until you have the long term care clinical, then you have to go pick up a patient assignment at some point during the day)

[color=#333333]thursday & fridays for the first 6 weeks - community clinicals range from 8-4pm

[color=#333333]the second half is long term care clinical (my hrs for that were 6am-3pm)

[color=#333333]*i think this by far was the toughest semester, there are tons of assignments and papers, you will be busy all of the time

[color=#333333]second semester

[color=#333333]monday: adult 1 7:30-10:20, pathophysiology 1:00-4:20

[color=#333333]tuesday: off

[color=#333333]wednesday: families 7:30-10:20, pharmacology 1:00-4:20

[color=#333333]rotations are peds/ob for 6 weeks and adult 1 for 6 weeks

[color=#333333]hours vary, my schedule was peds/ob thurdays and fridays from 6:30-1:30

[color=#333333]adult 1 was 7am-7pm on thurdays, again, schedules vary but it's the same amount of hours

[color=#333333]*this was a difficult semester as well because you take 16 tests plus one paper

Did anyone know when did the results for admission came out last year?

On a side note, what are your backup plans?

They came out March 4th.

And sadly... no back up plans except to reapply next year.

UCF is my first choice. But if I don't get accepted I am also applying to Seminole State, and Valencia ... in the end I just want to be an RN :nurse:
