I just wanted to ping the water. I've applied to UCF and I'm just waiting for my acceptance/rejection letter from them. I wanted to know how many people on here have applied to UCF or are a current nursing student there? Any info. would be great? Thanks in advance!
Fortunately, I received my UCF acceptance last Saturday. Exciting times! I think UF and UCF are both good programs. I highly doubt graduates from either program will have trouble finding a job after school. I do think Orlando has more to offer than Gainesville. Plus, the competition between Florida Hospital and ORMC benefits us. Also, Florida Hospital has begun preliminary work towards Magnet Certification. That's great for nurses too. Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
i'm about to start my senior year as an undergrad at uf and plan on applying to their accelerated nursing program this year. for those of you have been admitted to/are currently in the program, i was wondering if you knew about how many students are accepted per class?? i heard a rumor that it was only 9 but i have a hard time believing that!! i know that it's a really hard program to get into so i plan on having a few backups, but i reeeeally would love to stay in gainesville :) i talked to the adviser the other day...VERY vague about the whole thing, so any info anyone has would be great!
ucf class of '91......go knights!
no acclerated program then, came in with ba and prereq's combined gpa of 3.92 ,and a dh , and two little boys to the regular program.
ucf and uf are both good programs..but in the end, you learn as much as you decide you want to learn. i loved orhs (usually) and think they are far superior to florida hospital. at the latter, forget moving up the leadership ladder unless you are adventist; in addition, thay favor the grads from their own nursing program (which is straight out of 1962 in format) they go on and on about spiritually but don't practice it at all!!!!
i haven't really been able to find aid either, most awards have the stipulation that you can't have a bachelors. there's always loans, though.
pell grants and most others are only available if you don't have a bachelors . . . .
~but~
i got a grant from the dept of health and human services that did. of course, my grades were very high, and my bank account wasn't! (at the time, four of us were living on $19,000 a year!!)
hey it's the same price as undergrad courses because we're taking all undergrad classes. There are 7 credits of graduate courses we take, so that will be the graduate price but the rest of it is undergrad. I think this past summer semester was like $2500 or something.. but I heard tuition is going up at UF for this next school year so I'm not sure what it will be for the fall..
Honestly.. I think UF is the cheapest you can get in Florida AND it's an amazing program.. I LOVE it! Let me know if you have any other questions about it..
hey thanks so much!! it's so nice to hear that you love it!! i've heard from other people that accelerated programs are a nightmare, and the worst year and a half of your life...NOTTT so encouraging :) I talked to one girl who said that its a year of all nighters and weekends in the library with barely enough time to finish all your work. I know you just started but how has it been for you so far?? Do you feel completely overwhelmed by everything?? I was really excited until people started freaking me out!! Now I'm kinda nervous...

MCS,
I am going to UF's program as well! I'm currently finishing my undergrad at UF so if you have any questions about Gainesville or Shands let me know! Oh, and I looked up UF's pass rate and it's 2nd highest in the state- (Nova is the only one higher) just so you know!
