I am applying to the UCCS Beth-El Nursing Program for Spring 2015. I am an out-of-state transfer student. I have completed all but 3 of my prerequisites and have a 3.34 in my completed prerequisites and a 3.10 overall GPA.

I'm taking the last 3 prerequisites at UTSA Fall 2014 and I anticipate acing all of them which will bring me to a 3.40 prerequisite GPA and a 3.16 overall GPA.

I took the HESI June 17, 2014. My scores were:

Vocabulary and General Knowledge 92%

English Language Composite Score 90.67%

Biology 68%

Chemistry 84%

Anatomy & Physiology 88%

Science Composite Score 80%

Math 66%

Cumulative Score 82.57%

I have won the following awards and honors:

I worked as a home health care provider August 2012-January 2014. I have volunteered over 100 hours at various organizations.

UCCS does not list a minimum HESI score. Most nursing schools require a 75% on each test. The minimum GPA for Beth-El is listed as 3.0 overall. I am wondering what my chances of being admitted are based on my current and anticipated scores.

To be honest, you will need to greatly increase your HESI scores. Although your scores are good, those are the minimum requirements and your peers are getting 100% in several areas and no lower than 85-90% in any other area. That 68% will just shut you our completely. The program is highly competitive. Your GPA looks good, but see if you can get it a little bit higher. It might be a good idea to get in touch with nursing advisor at the school and she can dial you in a little bit better. Hope this helps.

I just got accepted for Fall 2015 and my HESI science score was a 97% and I got an overall 93% on the exam and my GPA was at a 3.85.

UCCS really looks at the science score while reviewing applications. Just raise those scores and I think you'll make it! Good luck!

I would NOT recommend you apply to the program with those HESI scores. Last I heard, UCCS requires 80% or higher in each composite category, and above a 74% in each sub-category. Both your math and biology scores will disqualify you. They really do place a lot of stake in the HESI scores. The minimum GPA to apply to the program (cumulative) is a 3.0.

They do not look at awards, honors, experience, or letters of recommendation, to my knowledge. It is SOLELY based off your HESI score and GPA. Additionally, you only have two chances to apply to the program, which is why you would be wasting one applying with HESI scores that do not meet the requirements.

Honestly, the program is competitive, and I would speak to a nursing advisor at the school about your chances of admission before you apply.
