UCAN Denver 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi Everyone,

I’m applying to CU Denver accelerated BSN for the January 2020 program start. I wanted to see if anyone else is applying or has applied, and if anyone has any tips or suggestions. Or if anyone is currently in the program I’d love to hear all about it! I know it’s super competitive and I don’t know what my chances are... fingers crossed! I’m also applying to Regis University for spring 2020.

About me, I graduated UCSB in 2016 with double major in Communication and Global studies. I’m switching careers to nursing and will be done with all science pre reqs by June. I only have religious studies and Psych left for pre reqs. My undergrad GPA is 3.78 and my pre req GPA should be close to 4.0 (hopefully!) I also have volunteered 100 hours in the ICU. Does anyone know any admissions stats? Would love to hear any information!

And good luck to everyone applying!

Current UCAN student here. Our cohort had about a 10-20% admission rate, I think, of those that completed the application.

Your GPA is good. Put a lot of time into your personal statement. Highlight what skills/experience you have that you can bring to your career as a nurse.

Hi, I have applied to the UCAN program as well. My GPA is honestly not the best so not sure if I will get in. I do have a lot of experience in healthcare and I am hoping that aspect will hold some weight. I have a foreign dental degree, which is why my GPA is a little off. @mrnursedude do you think the GPA would automatically cancel me out?

Depends. I don't know what your GPA was. It's certainly important, but not everything. I would say you prerequisite GPA is quite important, though.

Experience also counts for a lot.

my pre-req gpa is around 3.4? @mrnursedude

The advisor that I spoke with said that they generally accept within the range of 3.4-3.8. I’m in the same boat with a 3.55 GPA and the loads of medical experience. Good luck to us both ?

I have also applied. I have a 3.55 gpa with a higher prerequisite gpa. I have 6 years of medical experience in multiple specialties. I have a fair amount of volunteer work including some active. I’m not sure if you all received a similar email, but I got one saying I should get a response on my status by 7/1. I’m hoping that means they will give out interview offers.

Any current students that remember the timeline of interview offers, etc?

Good luck everyone!

On paper that is a strong application. Your personal statement and interview are both important, though.

Last year we were invited to interviews on 7/2, interviews were on 7/19, and letters of acceptance went out 8/30.

Hi Everyone!

I've been reading on allnurses for years and finally decided to make an account to respond to this thread. I applied for this program and received an interview invitation! I am ecstatic and cannot wait to meet potential future classmates and colleagues. Anyone else interviewing?

Hey there!

I too applied for the 2020 UCAN program and received my interview invitation today! Very excited and look forward to maybe meeting you on interview day. I haven’t heard much about the process but I believe it’s in group format?
