UC Davis Med Center Nurse Residency Fall 2021

Published

Good morning, all!

Applications for the UCD Nurse Residency Program Fall '21 cohort open today and I am eager as ever! It has been a longtime dream of mine to join the Med Center and application day is finally here. I wanted to start this chain so we can support each other and provide information about important dates and decisions. Hoping this goes well for all of us!

I heard they only consider you for where you got your preceptorship so you should tailor your cover letter to there.

Would graduating from a program that didn't include a preceptorship disqualify us from applying?

I have heard that people have been accepted without UCD experience. I went to school in central CA so I don't have UCD experience and still hoping for the best!

I also heard that you can be considered for other departments. I specified in my cover letter my top choice (NICU- which is where I did my preceptorship) but that I would be happy with any PICU/peds opportunities.

Good luck everyone!!

Hello, Jroon!

I’m in the same boat! NICU preceptorship with either NICU or PICU preferred. The posting comes down today I believe so we’re almost one step closer! ?

Congrats for making it this far everyone, excited to keep each other posted about the next steps (however long it may take for that to happen ?)

Hi everyone! I also applied with a general cover letter, but I included my ED experience. I volunteered at UCDMC before I went out of state for school so here’s to hoping for the best.

@lannak I tried to message you privately but it won't let me...how long do you think it will take us to get a Cali license? Are you testing right away for the California license or are you doing an endorsement? I'm testing for Texas since the test dates are so fast and then doing the endorsement. The state is just so behind, I hope we can make the deadline if we get chosen.

I used the processing page on the CABRN website as a guide. I applied directly to California, early, in March for my May 27th graduation date. It currently says that my transcripts are pending, even the prerequisite ones that they have already received. I also ordered my transcript to be sent directly on my graduation date both electronically and by mail. I have had students from previous cohorts at my school say they followed the same timeline and were able to sit for the NCLEX by late June or early July. If you are applying to Texas first, I would look at the processing page and it will give you a pretty accurate idea of the timeline for license by endorsement from another state.

Hi everyone!

I was just wondering how many hours everyone else got for their senior preceptorship? My school only gave us half with 60 hours in person and 60 hours virtual. I was just curious what it was like for everyone else because I feel like I'm at serious disadvantage here :(

I figured I have a slim chance because I didn’t do clinicals there either. I am hoping for ER as well. Did you make your cover letter specific to those units or general? I went more general in hopes of not being counted out of other units but I’m worried that could be a mistake.

I did the same and have the same worry ?

Hopefully we're about halfway through the first waiting period! I know it took the last cohort about 7-8 weeks to hear back for interviews. How's everyone hanging in there? Has anyone applied to other positions/residencies as well?

Look out for Kaiser’s NCAL Nurse Residency Program as well. The apps for their Fall cohort should be opening up at the end of May.

You really gotta follow closely though cause they’re only up for a very short amount of time.

Oh yes, great point! The last time they posted them in April I was ineligible because if I recall correctly they require licensure and the positions aren’t posted that far in advance. I graduate on the 27th so I still have a while until I can test ?

My application changed to routed!
