Hi there,
My first time posting on here! Just wondering if any of you lovely nurses have gained your BScN through UBC Okanagan, or done the first 2 at Okanagan College then gone over to the university?
If so would love to hear about your experience, and what your GPA was upon applying to get in? and what the course is like i.e course load, schedulle times?
I've applied to both of them for Fall 2017 and just looking for any info on what to expect.
Thank you kindly for any info :)
Hello,I've recently been accepted into the Okanagan College to do the collaboration with UBCO for the BSN program beginning this September. I also applied to UBCO but have yet to hear back. I was really hoping to get some insight into what the programs are like, how they differ from one another and what the schedule for the first year is like.
If I get accepted into UBCO to do all 4 years there I don't know how I'll choose between the two, so any opinions or insight would be greatly appreciated!!
Hi FutureRN_Bri,
Congratulations on your acceptance! :)
I am just finishing my 1st year at OC so I can offer a little insight into the program and offer MY PERSONAL pros & cons of attending the college.
PROS:
I did all my upgrading at OC so I am more biased to it. I also live further away so the college is closer for me.
CONS:
We do A LOT of group projects at the college, not sure about the university.
We also have a clinical skills test at the end of 1st year, which I believe they do not have at UBCO. Im not sure if that would be a pro or con for some people, but i found it really helped me learn my skills, and showed my instructor that I was capable.
I hope this helped you in your decision a little bit. I appologize if my information isn't 100% correct, all the things I have heard about UBCO is through friends so it may not be exactly accurate.
I LOVE being at the college so it was an easy choice for me. I wish you lots of luck in you choice, and maybe I'll see you at the college!
Message me if you would like any more information!
:)
Thank you so much for replying!
This information has been extremely helpful and has definitely furthered my preference for the college over the university. I live about 5 minutes away from the college so I was leaning towards going there already, but knowing how different the class sizes are really helps! I'd much rather be one of 26 than one of 150.
It wouldn't let me message you, but I do have one more question about what your schedule is like on a weekly basis if you don't mind sharing. I couldn't find any previous years schedules on the college website. I'm a single mom so having a rough idea of what I can expect my schedule to be like come the fall would be amazing.
Hi!
I recently completed my second year at Okanagan College. I started my program there in 2016.
*note to anyone that has applied to OC: I applied as a high-school applicant, I did not have enough University credits for it to count towards anything. My average was 95% and I was given early admission (Found out in March of 2016). Most applicants did not find out until April/May and there were some people that found out as late as mid-august.
When you find out depends on a lot of things:
1) Grades
2) Applicant type (high-school or university/college)
3) Where you stand in relation to the applicant pool you come from
4) Seats available
There are 26 seats available at OC, when the offers of admission are sent out they give a set period of time (I can't remember how long, I apologize) in which the person who received the letter has to accept or decline the offer. If someone accepts it, the spot is taken up. If they decline it, the spot is put back into the pool it came from (highschool or college/university).
One of the people in my class did not find out until mid-august and they were a university transfer student. My guess is that some applicants were waiting to hear for other universities, or were still deciding so it took a while to hear back overall. *
Also, schedule-wise (I tried to figure out how to upload a photo but it wouldn't let me >_<. this was my rough schedule for first year is a large gap on the monday that i pretty sure they fixed following just an fyi also includes english and human anatomy physiology courses are required if you have not previously taken them somewhere else.>

**I know they altered the schedule for the 1st years for fall 2017-winter 2018. I think they fixed it so it wasn't so spread out? But I'm not entirely sure, they did align the Monday breaks this past year so that the 1st and 2nd year students had a 1 hr 40 minute break at the same time**
Let me know if you have anymore questions :)
