UBC BSN September 2018 Applicants

Published

Hello fellow applicants!

I was browsing and did not see a thread for the 2018 UBC BSN applicants so thought I'd start one.

I am just finishing up my supplemental nursing application and hope to finish my application by the end of today and have already submitted my transcript. Just wanted to know who else is applying/GPA/past experiences with UBC/any tips or information for the application anyone wishes to share.

A bit about myself.. I am currently an LPN working at a hospital and also work part-time in retail in a leadership role, I do not have a Bachelor's degree but am applying anyways (hoping my supplemental weighs heavy in my favour). I have a GPA of 3.55 and will have ~30 credits at the end of this Fall term. I have some volunteer experience working with companies during their charity campaigns and am hoping to do more volunteer work this year. I will also be applying to BCIT, Langara and Queen's University once their applications open up.

Good luck to everyone and please share any information you're able too!

June 15 I think. :)

Hey guys - finally made an account despite stalking this forum for months.

Congratulations to all those who were accepted and best of luck to those who are on the waitlist and are reapplying. Applications are always such a lottery, and it was definitely extra stressful this year.

Just got my acceptance yesterday and I paid all of my fees today! Does anyone know what the Facebook group is called so I can join it? I'm so looking forward to meeting you all.

Hi Everyone!

Congrats to all accepted. I am number 27 on the wait list :/. Does anyone know the average number of people they take from the reserve list?

Congrats to those accepted and don't give up to those who weren't!!! It's all about the journey. I was not accepted to OT twice at UBC, took a couple years to continue exploring career options and gain more experience, and now I've been accepted into both UBC and BCIT BSN!

Gopher_ and any others who have been accept to both BCIT/UBC- Have you decided what you're going to do re: choosing BCIT/UBC?! I would love to chat about it!

I haven't decided yet! I've very torn between the two programs and would love to talk to someone about it as well. I'm not sure if allnurses allows us to private message?

EDIT: Just sent you a PM mhairbear:) For anyone else who has also been accepted to both UBC/BCIT, I'd love to hear any insight as to why you chose the program you did!

Hi everyone! Has anyone on the waitlist heard back yet? Or know approximately when when we will hear? @Dorothy101 were you able to find out the average number of people they take from the reserve list?

The deadline for people to accept/decline offers is June 15. Ruxandra says that shortly after that date, new letters will be sent out to people from waitlist who are offered a spot.

Thanks @Annhes ! Do you know if we have to send in proof of CPR-HCP etc in order to maintain eligibility on the waitlist? Or do we wait until an offer is extended. The line in the email about completing all admissions requirements by June 15th in order to maintain eligibility really confused me. And then I'm not sure how to submit them - to complete a CRC for UBC we would need the access code from UBC?? I emailed these questions to Ruxandra a few days ago but haven't heard back yet, but I'm assuming this is a very very busy time for her and she might not be able to get back to all emails. Thanks!

According to the website, CRC, CPR, etc. are considered post-admissions requirements, so a person wouldn't have to complete them until they had accepted an offer. Information on those things are sent out in the admissions packages.

I believe the admissions requirements noted in the letter just referred to transcripts for any in-progress prerequisites.

Hi MW25, it looks like the CRC access code is only available once you're offered a seat, accept, and pay your $500 deposit. There's then a system on UBC canvas to submit documents and appointment times with the Student Health Service, so I think you'd need access to this and to submit it all through that system. I can't imagine doing CPR-HCP ahead of time would be a problem - our letter says this has to be done after May 1st I think (I can double check the deadline in the letter later today), but you would just have to wait to submit the proof. I would imagine waitlisted students will have later deadlines since they won't be able to access any of this ahead of time. Hopefully Ruxandra is able to give you an idea what those dates would be :)

Thank you so much Annhes and jacqat!! That info helps a lot.

Hi Friends and fellow Fall 2018 successful applicants! I am wondering if anyone knows what the consequences are if we miss the "mandatory" orientation at the end of August? I have a very important family obligation that includes flights and hotels that have been paid for that I cannot miss.

If any of the students admitted last fall could shine some light on what happened in this 2 day orientation? Opinion on whether or not I can make up for it in my own time?

I've emailed the student center, but I haven't heard back nearly 2 weeks, I'll try calling today.

Thanks team!

I still have not heard a response from UBC (Okanagan campus).. My application status reads "Your file is ready for an evaluation! We ask for your patience as this may take some time. We will be in touch with you by email should we require additional information. Please continue to check the status of your application on the Student Service Centre." I know others have received acceptance/rejection letters as well as waitlist notifications. So where does that leave me?? The stress is killing me!! I don't exactly have the highest of hopes since I don't have a great GPA (young and dumb), but I'm an LPN (with excellent marks in that program) and I have some good life experience. Is anyone in the same situation or know a possible reason for this? Thanks!!
