I am affiliated with a small physician owned surgery center. We do outpatient procedures on patients from 2 to no age limit. One of the staff members has completed a course in Phlebotomy Skills Training, NCCLS Veinpunctrue and Skin Puncture Procedures. She has expressed interest in utilizing her skills, under the direct supervision of an Anesthesiologist, the surgeon, and an RN. She will give no medication. She would be responsible only for accessing the vein and attaching to the microbore from the bag of IV fluids the physician has set up. Administration is asking what documentation we need since she is a UAP.
We are meeting with our physicians this week to discuss this topic and would like some feedback if possible.
