Ualr nursing program applicant 2017

Published

Hi, I just wanted to start a conversation for the 2017 nursing applicants at Ualr. It's a long wait until April. We can keep each other updated during the wait.

Do you start July 5th

Congrats! I received my acceptance letter as well!!!

Great! Do you guys know the books we will need?

Hi everyone I got my acceptance email into the traditional track on a Friday I am so excited!!!

I'm in the process of applying at UAMS for a patient care tech (CNA) position. If you work at UAMS full time (40hrs) you will get a 50% off tuition discount. If one of your parents works there and your under the age of 24 & not married you can get a 50% discount at the UAMS campus or 40% off at any U of A school. My mom is a RN at UAMS and the discounts have helped me tremendously and saved me tons of money. It sucks that my birthday is in July. I lost my discount for summer classes. I pray I get a job up there or schools going to get pricey. My fingers & toes are crossed. Lol.

Ps: Good luck to everyone that just started the first round of Nurs1300. Read as much as you can or until your eyeballs fall out and you have to pop them back in. Watch out for those select all that apply questions on the test. Also beware, I have heard metered parking is free in the summer right by the nursing building, and it's suppose to be free after 5:00, but sometimes they like to write everyone tickets when the Lots full and when campus security gets bored with life. I been there done that lol.

Yay congrats everyone!! :) How long do y'all have to accept your spot? I'm wondering & trying to figure out when there going to send out the next batch. I got in last summer but I didn't get to move on because I missed by a few points. I been waiting patiently all year to get back in. My nerves are so shot from this extremely long wait of not knowing. Lol.

Curious...what is everyone plans. Do you plan on working a little? Or not at all. I will have to quit my job because they do not offer part time work. So I am trying to find out resources out there that can help out..I did save my tax refund most of it...but that will go so far. Do anyone know of any resources out there. I will like to focus on the program, but if need be a course I will find something part time.

Any thing will help thanks

Shoot I didn't mean to post twice.

I have also seen a post going around on Facebook about the shortages of nurses in Arkansas and that UALR has 40 full paid scholarships to give away.

Great! Do you guys know the books we will need?

Books:

1. Kozier & Erb's Fundamentals of Nursing (cheeper on Amazon) ISBN: 9780133974362

2. Policy & Procedure Handbook. ISBN: 2811004056140

3. 1300 Handbook ISBN: 2811004056386

4. Calculate With Confidence (Not required). ISBN: 9780323089319

Supplies:

1. NURS 1300 Skills kit.. It was around $140.00 last year.

2. A watch that counts seconds.

3. Manual blood pressure cuff.

4. Stethoscope.

5. Penlight.

We have until June 2nd to accept. Will we have to purchase uniforms for summer course? Do you remember days/time for summer course? Cost of Nurs1300 course? Is payment required before class start date? Sorry I have so many questions lol.

Oh ok thank you. I bet they will send out another round Friday. :) You won't need uniforms for NURS 1300. As you get closer to the light at the end of the tunnel they will let you know about shoes and scrubs for the fall semester. last year when I was in the July class we had class Monday-Wednesday. Most days where 0900-1150. Tuesday's were Clinical days and check offs 0800-1650. I think tuition was due the first or 2nd day of class. It was around $930. You will be required to buy a skill kit for lab it was $130. You will prob have to have that purchased by the time you take your first test. Last year If you didn't have your receipt you didn't get to take your test. Lol. Also word of advice don't rent your fundamental of nursing book. You will have that joker highlighted up like crazy & Everyone has said they use it throughout the program. The cheapest places I have found it on is Amazon and eBay and they also have a PDF you can purchase. If you don't wanna break your back Lol. (I snagged one for $10). Oh one more thing... If any of y'all are cold natured bring a jacket with you or you will freeze your booty off.
