I was told by a reliable "insider" that as of last month, UAB will no longer hire nurses with Associate Degrees, ONLY Bachelor Degrees in Nursing.
Any thoughts?

Im not saying your telling one because i have no idea, but my friend just graduated from bevill and was hired on the spot by UAB. I dont see how they could do this. Most of the RN's i know that work there are from jeff state wallace and bevill state. However it wouldn't affect me because Uab would be my personal last choice but it would hurt alot of nurses in the field. Hope they rethink the idea.
Apparently it will not effect RN's already working at UAB but rather new hires as of last month. I'm not sure how or what to think about it. Happy to hear they hired your friend!

I have also heard that, but I am an ADN and I got a job there last month. I think they are considering it, but it hasn't taken effect yet. I looked at human resources yesterday and they were still hiring ADNs. Just curious, why would that be your last choice? They have awesome benefits!

THIS IS A BIG MISUNDERSTANDING!!! They prefer people have there BSN rather than people with ADN. I work there now as a PCT/PO and I have already been told that when I get my degree they will hire me. I am at Jeff State for ADN. But yes they prefer you have a BSN. Theres no way they could change to just accepting BSN because there simply not enough schools in Alabama that offer the BSN program. People are taking that hospitals accept a BSN before a ADN and twisting it into that the ADN is no longer going to be accepted at a hospital which is complete ignorance. SO FALSE!!!

I applied a few months back for a PCT position at UAB.Never heard a word. From what i understand they train PCT in house. I am currently at Bevill pre-nursing. I have A's& B's so far this semester and passed my healthcare CPR. Any tips Hartnswoon,
on getting a PCT position at UAB? I am going to reapply for night shift/weekend shift, just want to work at hospital and get my nursing degree.
Thanks, Arleenie

From my experience hospitals usually perfer a cna trained candidate. Less training they have to do.

To answer the question UAB still hires the ADN they ask you to sign a contract stating you will get your BSN within 3 years of being hired. This is part of their Magnet Contract. The facility is geared toward educational growth and this forces you to continue your education. I got hired as an ADN and have one semester left before completing my BSN and I am glad they have the stipulation because if not I probably would not have went back to school and the fact is this makes you more marketable in the work force.
