Hello Everyone,

I wanted to start this thread for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) MSN program Fall 2019 applicants. We can use this thread to keep track of the application process, GPA, application deadlines and acceptance or denial letters. Also as a way to stay sane during this stressful time. Support each other during this journey to become an Advanced Pracrice Provider.

I am applying for Fall 2019 MSN Psych Program for PMHNP. I finish my BSN in May 2019 and have my ASN with a GPA of 3.76. My GPA for the BSN should be 4.0 if all stays the same grade wise. My letters of reccomendation are from the program director ar my University, a member of the Faculty team and the Nursing Director of the Surgical Services Department at my workplace. My application letter is APA formatted with at least 3 references and close to 800 word count. Application deadline for the PMHNP track is Febraury 21, 2019.

What specialty track are you all applying to? What are yor GPA scores. Do you plan on taking the GRE? Share any thoughts.

I know the feeling. A little over a month left now to find out if we made the cut. Running out of nails to bite in anxiety.

Applied for PNP Fall 2019 as well. A coworker who started the PNP program in Fall 2018 told me she found out she was accepted that May.

Lordy, thats a long time to wait! Also, how is your coworker liking the program so far?

Just out of curiosity...what did y’all write about in your essays?

oh gosh, that was the most awkward essay in the history of ever! lol I've written TONS of scholarly papers and that had to be the weirdest one and definitely not my best. I honestly didn't know how to go about writing a research/evidence-based practice essay regarding my opinions of why I chose UAB and my degree path. To me, evidence-based practice research and personal goals and dreams don't really go together in a paper, but I made it work. However, it was so awkward that I have a feeling it ruined my chances of getting in. I talked about my personal reasons for pursuing this degree and found some peer-reviewed journal article on something I could implement when I become a nurse practitioner. Then I threw in some other random facts and statistics and cited them. I guess we shall see.

Exactly ? I wish there was a way to “cheat” to see if we got accepted or not - you know, kinda how we knew if we had passed the NCLEX before we received the “official” results LOL

I discussed some personal experiences as well as goals as related to the PMHNP track. I described what choosing this track means to me based on my life. I quotes statistics and information on the needs for mental health providers in underserved areas, as well as my intentions to use that knowledge to help those in my homecountry too.

I was honest an cited their US News College rankings in MSN as well as referenced their tuition costs being very affordable. That was in addition on the reasons what the PMHNP means to me and why it would be a good fit.

In previous years there has been a short of trick to check if you have been accepted. However, it didt really worked until like a week before officially finding so we dont gain much by doing it lol
