I wanted to start this thread for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) MSN program Fall 2019 applicants. We can use this thread to keep track of the application process, GPA, application deadlines and acceptance or denial letters. Also as a way to stay sane during this stressful time. Support each other during this journey to become an Advanced Pracrice Provider.
I am applying for Fall 2019 MSN Psych Program for PMHNP. I finish my BSN in May 2019 and have my ASN with a GPA of 3.76. My GPA for the BSN should be 4.0 if all stays the same grade wise. My letters of reccomendation are from the program director ar my University, a member of the Faculty team and the Nursing Director of the Surgical Services Department at my workplace. My application letter is APA formatted with at least 3 references and close to 800 word count. Application deadline for the PMHNP track is Febraury 21, 2019.
What specialty track are you all applying to? What are yor GPA scores. Do you plan on taking the GRE? Share any thoughts.
No idea to be honest. I have a 3.76 GPA on ASN degree and a 4.0 GPA on my BSN portion. 2 letters from BSN professors, one from work supervisor. I had my essay APA formatted and checked by the English department tutor at my university.
So I do not know what the heck else I could do to please them ??♂️
I am not saying I know for sure but maybe it’s having 2 letters from professors? I thought I remembered reading only 1 letter must be from a professor if you have less than a few years experience as a nurse.
i gave letters from 1 BSN professor with a doctorate, 1 supervisor with masters, and 1 nursing preceptor with a BSN.
I paid a lot of detail to my resume and less to my essay. My resume had a cover letter, where I did my best to sell myself and show creativity. I put every single detail I could cram on one page in the resume including organizations and volunteer experience.
No one give up. I’ve had lots of doors close on my dreams in life but keep working and you’ll get them.
I had 3.8 GPA an ok essay I thought it could have been better. I am a assistant nurse manager in a psych department and have been a psych nurse for 8 years. Had 2 references from psychiatrists and 1 from nurse manager

That experience probably played a great factor into your acceptance. My experience is outside psych.
Was your envelope a small envelope or a large one??? What was included?
It was kind of small. Like a normal rectangle envelope. I was two forms you have to sign and send back and then all the other papers talking about to program and documents you need to gather.
